THAT!
Ok, what is the deal with all WestJet crew saying "that"? That safety card, that seat pocket, that seatbelt sign, that overhead bin.... Is this something taught is WS Flight Attendant school? It drives me crazy!
Re: THAT!
Lol. I thought I was the only one who found it retarded. I'm pretty sure it's the same thing as their gate agents saying "this will serve as a boarding call" ad nauseum. Or the same as all the silly things pilots copy on the radio because it sounded cool to them the first time they heard someone else say it: Someone came up with it and everyone copied it.
There is something about speaking into a microphone that makes everyone want to sound different by copying someone else.

Re: THAT!
After 10 years of listening to "that" I started making a log... Solely for the purpose of bolstering my insanity claim.
Re: THAT!
A couple to add to the list of things no long considered original and/or funny:
"Gott'em on the fish finder!" when responding to ATC traffic advisories, and
"Discretely to ten thousand" when issued lower altitudes at pilot's discretion.

Re: THAT!
A requirement specified by various ATC units where we are required to ask when a desired procedure it not included in the ATIS.WhatThe? wrote:"Can we get the short gate?"
FML
We don't like it but ATC keeps insisting that we request to cover ours and their asses.
Bad grammar - not even gonna fix it - long day.
Cheers.

"Sit back, relax, enjoy the flight".
Please, by all means, enjoy the flight. I don't think I need to tell you to 'sit back' though.

Re: THAT!
"BLOCKED"
Or my favourite: the corporate jet in YUL who thinks it's cool to breadcast his ident in plain letters instead of phonetic....
Oh, and "ahem, Winnipeg, Any ride reports at 390? We're getting light chop at 370..."
Happy Easter guys.

Re: THAT!
"The Captain and the ENTIRE crew..." "Entire" is redundant.
and my absolute fave: "...we'll be landing momentarily.." this gramatically actually means doing a touch and go.
And of course there's the ever-present "rate of speed"... and this is actually written that way in the Ontario Highway Traffic Act

Re: THAT!
Not a huge issue in the big scheme of things, but I get a bit verklempt when WestJet FAs give cabin announcements referring to "Captain Bob and First Officer Dave."
Captain Bob and First Officer Dave happen to hold ATPLs, have accumulated several thousand flight hours learning their craft, and are professionals who routinely take responsibility for a couple of hundred souls, including mine, as well as a multi-million dollar piece of equipment. I'm all in favour of a relaxed working environment and cheerful on-board service, but how about we show some respect (I'm pretty sure they've earned it) and use their surnames?

Re: THAT!
One of the first words I heard from Clive Bedoe's mouth were "we take our jobs seriously, not ourselves". I like it. A lot. Given the dangers of identity etc in this day and age most Lead FAs ask if the pilots want their last names used, and many pilots prefer not. So behind the whole thing is not "relaxed working environment" but something quite serious to many.YYZSaabGuy wrote:Not a huge issue in the big scheme of things, but I get a bit verklempt when WestJet FAs give cabin announcements referring to "Captain Bob and First Officer Dave."

Re: THAT!
Fair enough: if the crew actually prefer it, then I need to find something else to get pissy about! Thanks for clearing that up.7thirtyseven wrote:One of the first words I heard from Clive Bedoe's mouth were "we take our jobs seriously, not ourselves". I like it. A lot. Constantly hearing an over use of the article: "THAT" ..... Used to drive me spare when I worked there...and still gets a little irritating when deadheading...lol
What once might of been scripted in the PA announcements as humor has morphed into being part of the Westjet grammar. You don't commonly hear the over use of the word "THAT" when traveling on other carriers...
It is nice to see crew enjoying their work...but sometimes it is nicer to listen to a clean and crisp professional announcement. The AirCanada Safety Demo played on the TV Screens still has to be one of the best ones here in Canada...IMHO.

Re: THAT!
Anyone ever wonder why it is that pilots no longer get the same respect as other professionals...say doc or lawyer?
Is it, perhaps, that Doctors don't publicly bash other doctors choices of where to work or who to work for?
Just a question, not looking to start world war 3!

Re: THAT!
Formal education rules in this day in age. Doctors and lawyers have a lot of it, pilots not so much.
Also, there's a lot of the "aw shucks" type pilots who like to let everyone know how easy it is to do their job.
