Time Building

Post by General Brock »

I'm just wondering how many hours people fly in a month/year. We all know that this number changes between corporate flying, airline, air ambulance, bush, or instructing.

I get about 30 hours / month or somewhere around 350 / year flying air ambulance.
I'm wondering what hours other pilots get.

Last year flying a Caravan around the Yukon my busiest month was 150hrs, the quietest was about 60hrs. I only worked for 8 months though. This year I'll work for 4 months I expect between 400/500 hours for the season.

I usually come in at around 60 per month minimum, but I can do as many as 100 if I make some shift trades. I have flexibility there, which is nice.

As low as 170, as high as 300. Did 230 the last 365... the bulk of it between June and September.

I'm not really 'time building' per se.

Due to the nature of what I do, I typically
have more flights than hours. And, I hate
to fly in the winter.

This yields the following historical numbers:

Year.....Flights.....Hours
2012....184........144
2011....290........241
2010....199........138
2009....213........156
2008....216........158
2007....156........147
2006....209........160
2005....221........210
2004....255........183
2003....216........169
2002....221........164
2001....183........123
2000....148........128

etc.

Me neither, I'm not sure when it stopped mattering. Weird how life changes.

I do about 300 a year, plus or minus, and oddly enough anymore that doesn't drop off when the snow flies. Most of it instructing, though I'm happier to say that I have time to make up a larger percentage of those hours just having fun.

Oddly enough it doesn't matter what kind of flying I do. Medevac, corporate, airline, it always works out to 350 hours a year every year.

400+ a year normally, with most of it crammed in between March and November. It's been an odd start to the survey year though so it'll be interesting to see how the log book ends up looking at the end of the year this year.
