CF-18s in Colombia?
Does anyone know why there are 2 CF-18s at an airshow in Medellin Colombia?
Seems like a colossal waste of taxpayer $$$ to me....

It is scheduled on the RCAF CF-18 demo team site - http://www.rcaf-arc.forces.gc.ca/v2/cf1 ... sp?id=1863, but as to why, well ...

Re: CF-18s in Colombia?
I worked an airshow recently and heard the crew talking about this. They were going down there anyways for joint military exercises I believe and decided to be part of the show as part of a goodwill exercise to help foster better relations with the Colombian government.

Yet it's perfectly acceptable for them to fly in US airshows?
Colombia also had a presence during maple flag this year I believe ...

Re: CF-18s in Colombia?
Is a fair question, of the top of my head there might be a multitude of reasons, some good, some maybe not so much. The boys and girls need to fly the airplanes anyways, they might as well show the flag and make some people happy. I'd suspect it send the message that Canada is doing not bad economically, especially since there's been a lack of American military jets in airshows as of late. Personally the government has already spent my tax dollars on CF-18s, they might as well spend some and put some fuel through them.Strega wrote:Does anyone know why there are 2 CF-18s at an airshow in Medellin Colombia?
Which is sour grapes for no reason since you've clearly stated you have no idea why they're there. You're extra bitchy these days, you fighting with Larry again?Seems like a colossal waste of taxpayer $$$ to me....

Re: CF-18s in Colombia?
Just part of the airshow tour.
Last year was Brazil and a couple other countries down South.
Perhaps were looking for potential buyers when we do decide to get rid of them?
The states has completely eliminated their jet airshow tour due to cutbacks (correct me if I am wrong AVCAN experts). We will pick up the slack with our single show bird... one CF-18 and one small crew to keep it flying.

Confess what you do. I'm sure someone will be able to match your level ignorance.Strega wrote:Maybe one day when you pay tax, you will understand.....Sour grapes over a non-issue.
As for two being there, there is often a second jet which flies along.
Frivolous / ignorant criticisms often provide a nice chuckle. Reminds me of the lot who choose air travel these days. Someone purchases a pass for $79 one way and they believe their opinion, self importance, satisfaction, etc trumps every other factor known to man. Oh and the best part, they're "never" wrong.

Gravol..
Keep living in your special little "Utopia" where "the government" pays for all......
BTW the US is just a tad bit closer to Canada than Colombia... Just sayin..

Strega agree with the expense of not here is the reason.
Oh, and Frosti does pay tax as did I when in the RCAF. You might disagree with us but don't insult us.

The Treasury Board President owes Canadians $50 million and I'd much rather it went toward CF-18 flight time than a fake lake and Gazebo's in his riding. Ask him.Strega wrote:Seems like a colossal waste of taxpayer $$$ to me....
