Caravan Amphib wheels up YRL

Post by golden hawk »

I heard that a Caravan landed wheels up on the runway at Red Lake last week. Does anyone know who the operator was?

CADOR

"A Superior Airways Cessna 208 (C-FYMT) on a local flight from Red Lake, ON (CYRL), with amphibious landing gear, landed gear up on runway 26 in CYRL at 1612Z. No emergency services required but aircraft was disabled on the runway. Taxiways A/B and runway 08/26 were closed from 1612Z until 1736Z."

I wonder why it took them over an hour to get it off the runway, must have been some damage.

I am told the damage was quite limited actually.

1h30m to inflate the bags, 10 sec to cycle gear down, 3 mins to tow away....sounds 'bout right

I won't say who, but I was involved in rescuing a similar sized aircraft after a gear up landing, and we were 24 minutes from getting the call to having the runway clear. Over an hours seems excessive, we weren't rushing by any means.

In that amount of time, think of the posts Doc could have made on the subject of landing gear!

Was it raining? If so maybe he saw a puddle and thought "gear up for water landing" was correct.
