Present Year; Where in Canada has Highest Employment Opp.

Post by AMETonyD »

A simple and thorough search throughout the forums has come up dry, therefore I am asking you, the aviation community; Where in all of Canada has the highest rate of employment opportunities ?

In advance, thank you to all those who reply!

Cheers!

What about Ontario, I mean YYZ is the hub of all of Canada, should there be more opportunity there? Or is that not an apprentice friendly zone ?

ASC up in Yellowknife hired a few apprentices when I was there, not too sure on the pay on the AME side of things. Working conditions were excellent though.

I was thinking the mining outfits north of 60. They're always looking for cooks, cleaners, heavy machine operators. Same holds true of the oil patch. Two feet and a heartbeat will get you a job and a (really) good salary there. The more skills you have, the more money they throw at you. A friend of mine is a heavy diesel mechanic in a major Canadian city south of 60. He makes a comfortable living. Nothing fancy. He was blown away by the salaries I showed him for the same job he was doing but with a 2 week rotation in the north.

I'm assuming that since you posted on AvCanada, you're actually looking for aviation work which holds significantly less employment opportunities than the above mentioned sectors and localities.

My personality holds to the integrity that I continue on investing myself in aviation.
Perhaps I could expand my scope of expertise into another area or trade-related, but wouldn't that be like starting all over ?

I mean I'd at least like to find a company within aviation that would invest time in me, so I can further develop my skills as an AME. It just seems, or that I'm under the impression that the industry isn't the same as it once was, how it was during the baby boomer years.

I know it's a matter of just finding the right fit, at times now it feels so challenging !
