They'll have to go back and edit the movie "The Hunt For Red October"

Capt. Vasili Borodin: I will live in Montana. And I will marry a round American woman and raise rabbits, and she will cook them for me. And I will have a pickup truck... maybe even a "recreational vehicle." And drive from state to state. Do they let you do that?
Captain Ramius: I suppose.
Capt. Vasili Borodin: No papers?
Captain Ramius: No papers, state to state.

Scetchy immigration officer at pop up check point, "Are you an American citizen?"
Vasili Borodin, "You are detaining me comrade?"
S I O, "What?"
Vasili Borodin, "I am wishing to being go on my route."
S I O, "Uh, we need a supervisor."

Don't worry once everyone is marked you won't need to carry ID anymore.

It was just marked on the chart as an obstruction, but there was no restriction. He flew 1000ft AGL over it, which seems reasonable.
This just makes my blood boil! Those cops need to learn a little "politeness". I would be calling for those cops to be fired or something.
I'm foaming at the mouth just reading the article.... Yikes!

warrantless searches conducted on innocent, law-abiding citizens for very poor, or no, reasons at all
Innocent until proven guilty.

How do you prove (establish) guilt?

Why you do a search! But why when they are innocent? But how do you know they are innocent?

Give me enough time and I will find you a an innocent pilot that did something wrong (Peru mules was an easy search) and is in jail somewhere.......

At least in the land of the free they don't shoot you down. Just search you............

And you can complain as much as you want when you do get searched. Why if that is not freedom then what is?

You missed the key point: Warrantless.
Think I've committed a crime, and need to find evidence to prove it? Explain your suspicions before a judge, and maybe they'll issue a warrant, and you can search to your heart's desire.
Just barging in and searching is a very short step to 'Ausweiss, bitte!'

Ja its a short step from
He also told us that during the training he was taught that the pilots were to be treated as though they had no right to refuse the search. “What they taught law enforcement officers and agents was that all aircraft can be detained since they all fall under the . . . authority of the FAA.” He continued that, “this in effect gives them complete search authority of any aircraft.”
To Ausweiss, bitte!

The article doesn't exactly say that "pilots have no rights" just that they were to be "treated as they had no right to refuse a search". So perhaps a "savvy" pilot would be able to talk his way out of the search. Perhaps ask the agents for their papers........
The agents teaching the course admitted during instruction that the stops had a very low rate of success in finding drug traffickers. Our source said one agent admitted that the stops involved “a lot of empty work
Yes. Warrantless.

I remembered reading this not too long ago, and found the article. It *is* a concern, and it *is* unwarranted.

I will agree with the posters that have stated that the "I don't care, I have nothing to hide" mentality is dangerous. I don't have anything to hide, either.. now. It is one thing to be ramped by the FAA or TC, it is totally different in this case.

Warranted?

Perhaps there would be less random searching if people took their freedom(s)seriously.

Shall we move on?

Or keep on grinding water?

Do you understand what a warrant is? As in the noun, not the verb?

Pointing out a couple of random after-the-fact cases is not helping your point.

Yes. Yes I do.

The English language is a wonderful and complicated language.

It is a language that warrants great study.

But as far as i am concerned your comments are unwarranted.

Are we finished grinding?
