YWG ACC and Tower tour
I live and work in Winnipeg and always wanted to get a tour of those places to see how you guys work.
Not out of pure curiosity, but I think it will be easier to operate in IFR environment properly once one knows what goes on behind the scenes.
Is there a way for to get a tour of Tower and ACC in Winnipeg?

All you have to do is call the shift manager at 204-983-8338 and tell them you would like to come to the ACC for a tour. They will let you know when a good time would be. I wish all pilots would take advantage of this. It never hurts to see the over side of things.

^ when you coming flying?
Agreed though. I have heard the few who have gone say the ACC is a great experience. It's on my to-do list.

Sorry to thread hijack, but I am in the same boat out at CYOW. I've always wanted to go and get a better understanding how they do what they do so that when I get in a bind or they say the things they do I am much more appreciative. I kfow they have an immensely intense job, so I will always have a profound appreciation for their services, but I am an adult learner who likes to see the "inner workings" to get a better understanding.

Have you tried asking the tower on the air?androo303 wrote:Giving this post a bump. Anyone know about CYOW?androo303 wrote:Sorry to thread hijack, but I am in the same boat out at CYOW. Never thought of that, but somewhat worried about doing that... Don't know why though.kevenv wrote:Have you tried asking the tower on the air?

Just ask air/ground for a number to arrange a tour. Do it when they aren't busy.androo303 wrote:Never thought of that, but somewhat worried about doing that... Don't know why though.kevenv wrote:Have you tried asking the tower on the air?

I did call and was welcomed to arrange a tour whenever it was convenient. The number is actually published in the CFS.
I would imagine that Ottawa would not be much different, Montreal's ACC phone number is also in the CFS, although it is under "emerg only". I don't think it would be a very big deal if one calls. I called YYZ shift manager regarding a phraseology question once and he had no issues about it.

Call 514-633-3365 for YUL ACC. Shift manager, it won't be a problem.

Assuming you mean CYOW tower, not terminal:
Call the number listed in the CFS. You'll get a voice directory, one of the options should be the unit supervisor. His name is Bill, he'll be able to set up a visit for you.
