A serious question if someone has the time to answer ..
What is the process for a pilot after he/she is laid off?
I mean aside from the immediate scramble for work of course, but whats involved with backing yourself with the UI process, availability of programs for retraining etc. etc.
I ask simply because years ago I was with an outfit that had a cute system of laying off partially its employees in the off season and even with company assistance the whole process with UI was a nightmare. Took six weeks till I saw any money which was doable as an apt. renter with a very patient employed wife, but as I replace things on a five year old house that seem to be breaking with an alarming frequency I wonder about the way things go these days.
I don't care about the company you were laid off from or anything political, for the guys who are going through the process now or have done in the near past if you could obliquely line out what you're going through I think it might help a few others out as well as myself.

Re: Pink Slip
I think I am in a completely different boat then you... but...
Last year when I got the lay-off, the first thing I did was book a 6 month ticket to a warmer climate.
This year, because I knew I was going to get laid off, I lined up winter work that works for my lifestyle about a month in advance of getting the pink slip. I was laid off two days ago, and start again at another position for the winter in 8 days. I am (un)fortunate that I don't have large monetary commitments that allow me to be essentially a hobo year round. I've never collected UI only because I have never needed it to survive, one of these winters I'll give it a shot.
