There's a difference between someone's perception of a good instructor and an actual good instructor. Many look to the bold and daring who push limits to be "masters of the sky" when it's the instructor that teaches good decision making, respecting limits etc. that I'd say is a good instructor. There's a lot more to it of course, but perception can be different from reality.
Also for questions I usually direct students to where they can find an answer rather than just giving it to them. This way not only do they learn the answer to their question but also how to find those answers once they're licensed and on their own. Plus they'll usually find some extra info on the way. A lot of students just don't want to take the time to do the studying required. They just want to show up to the lesson and be force-fed the info, go home and forget about it for a week then expect things to move along. It doesn't happen that way and they pay a lot more for ground and repeated lessons than if they came prepared for each lesson. It's the difference between a 20 min ground briefing and an hour sometimes.
