Westjet chute deployed?

Post by AOG »

Hi All,

I was just driving up stoney trail in YYC and saw a WJ 737-700/800 (had winglets) on approach flying above at approx. 12:30. There was a big black mark coming from the fwd LH door area. It was fairly far away from me still so I wasn't able to get a good close look. Anyone at WJ want to elaborate on this one? From my angle it looked as though it could have been an exit chute deployed, or a weird paint job that is new extending from the pilots windows to behind the pax door. Now that I'm writing this, I seem to remember WJ throwing moustaches on their planes for Movember, are those on the aircraft yet?

Anyways, before I get slammed on here as most people do, It was from a far. There's a good chance its just a different paint job etc. Anyone from WJ care to elaborate?

Thanks

I don't think that was it, but it could have been.

If there's nothing on the news by now, or nobody saw anything on the ramp today, Im sure that im full of it.

Oh well

It is virtually impossible for the emergency exit slide (chute) to deploy outside the aircraft in flight as the door opens forward. In flight the wind resistance would be enormous! I think you either saw a shadow or the number 100 lettering on the photo above. No other "special" paint schemes I know about.

Could have been the shadow of the winglet... as seen here:

Can't believe nobody got a better photo, but this is what an E-190 chute apparently looks like when deployed in flight:

I would assume the situation would be similar in a Boeing.

Ha Ha HA that would be funny...and scary. And without even so much as a pair of scissors on board how would they even deflate it?

A very pointy pen would do it, I am sure.

Shhhh! Company secrets! We wouldn't want CATSA/TC security to know we actually have one with us 5 minutes after we get rubber gloved in security!

Good Lord
