I doubt about the strip and repaint, but his airplanes were always clean and superbly maintained. He had either 12 or 14 Beavers, you hear either figure, at one point in the early 1960's.

I don't remember it being stripped once between paint jobs. Pretty multi-coloured during sanding as I believe the Braniff colours were still underneath...
