No, it's not true! We've been told by Gilles and his buddies that Air Transat has hired unilingual pilots in the past. That requirement is not real, nor is the fact that they ask you questions in French in the interview, etc. All just hatred from outsiders!

So Transat has put out their first add for pilots. No doubt a farce to establish LMO for the hiring of foreign pilots to operate their 37s this winter.

Ok, so if you speak French/English and leave Canjet to go to Transat now for a 737 job. You need to quit Canjet and then return to train with Canjet for your Transat job. That is AMUSING! Hope you didn't have any training bond left with CJ or it could get confusing.

Being bilingual is a benefit no matter where you are. Being trilingual is even better!

The majority of pilots/employees here are bilingual, but there are indeed some who are not, including captains.

My interview and sim were done in english. During groundschool they would ask if people preferred to do it french or english. If you don't know french, speak up, they won't hold it against you.

Having said that, the majority of people are francophone. It would benefit you to learn the basics if you were here. If it's that much of a problem, don't apply.

And, once again, yes they ask for bilingual pilots, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't turn down a solid candidate on the basis of his limited French language knowledge. We've seen it before many times and it's bound to be the case again this time.

So it's pretty straight, no type rating required nor any training bond (or variation thereof)...

There are other requirements, even if it's not spelled out: one must be either a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant in order to apply, and one must have a CANADIAN pilots' licence, not an FLVC.....

This is just my own opinion. I think that this batch will be permanent full time positions.

My understanding from an inside source is that four aircraft will be operated all year long while an extra eight to ten will be operated for the winter season.

Is it fair to assume that the interview is for CJ pilots only? Is the interview only for B737 or also that have a need for A310 and A330?

They did some interviews last week. I know one guy who was hired into a pool (he had no type rating).

Right now I believe the company will give preference to CJ pilots who have applied, calls have gone out this week for more interviews. There's not enough 737 typed pilots who've applied to fill the spots, and I don't think anyone with a A330 or A310 TR will be applying.

Seeing how Canjet helped us out with layoffs, I think TS is giving preferential interviews to their pilots. Having said that, I don't think TS will hire strictly from CJ because then CJ would be short on pilots.

Furthermore, it's not a problem to give preference to people with type ratings... it will be a problem though if we bring in foreign pilots to fill those spots. I really doubt that will happen, seeing how vocal Transat was in regards to this issue. But that's just my opinion.

It's one thing to ask for type ratings just in case you are able to attract a few people who have one before hiring and training CANADIANS that don't.

Requiring type ratings as a sine qua non condition for the sole purpose of excluding CANADIAN pilots to favor type rated foreigners instead is a whole different story.

Applied here, over 5k TT but all on turbo prop. Obviously no type rating on any of the three listed but keeping my fingers crossed for an interview at least.
