Started on a Trail 50, then an XR100, then an XR250R. Living in Europe, had a Moped (I know...) and an NSR400R with periodic access to an RC30. Man, those were AWESOME machines to zip all through Southern Europe on! When I came back home, got a CBR600 and rode it all through University. Got hit by a drunk driver and decided that, coupled with my flying, I had more than enough risk in my life.
Got outta bikes for many years (4x4ing and restoring old sports-cars kept my mechanical itch scratched!) until Mrs. Airtids picked up an '81 Yamaha XS400. Had a fun couple of years on that.
These are the two in our stable right now:

'78 Trail 90

'06 Kawasaki Super Sherpa
Both for sale. Both will be missed...

Re: Motorcycle-licensed pilots
I happened to have gotten my motorcycle endorsement and pilot's license in the same year. That was in 2002.
Had a Ducati 749. Then a GSX-R 600 which I commuted to and from work on year-round for 4 years, riding 40 km each way. Best commute of my life.
I don't get to ride much these days with 2 young kids. But no way will I sell my bike cuz as someone has said, it will be much harder to get into another one down the road. That's just how married life really is ...

It's refreshing to see the variety of responses and so many participating avitars.
The racing youtube (North Shore) and the tour of the Bigland (Novaboy) are so entertaining. Banking with the bike in the curves there as you're watching it ... feels just like flying

Re: Motorcycle-licensed pilots
I think I would certainly have a bike again, if I weren't a pilot.
Not that flying reduces my ability to 4 wheels.
Flying reduces my savings account to 4 dollars!
I'd say more pilots would still have bikes if early pilot careers paid more, and insurance was cheaper.

Truth. I've owned two Gen1's (2001 & 2005) and wanted to upgrade to the Gen2 engine, but wasn't crazy about the Gen2 styling... so I bought this crazy-as-bat-sh!t machine:Colonel Sanders wrote:Busa is the King. If I didn't have the RC51, I'd haveI've been considering finding a 'busa for a while
to get a Busa. Gen1 would be fine with me.
*snip*

2008 B-King... factory Gen2 'Busa streetfighter... love it. Have three other bikes in the garage but this one gets the most miles put on.
PS: Maintainer here, not driver....

Heh. I was never crazy about the gen1 stylingwasn't crazy about the Gen2 styling

Hard to argue with the results, though.

Re: Motorcycle-licensed pilots
Supposedly the best ones to get are the initial year models, the ones that weren't limited. Those were the ones I liked the style of best, that copper/aluminum color scheme - which I know wasn't popular, but still screams Hayabusa.Colonel Sanders wrote:Heh. Trivia time: What airplane also bore the name Hayabusa?

Back to the two-wheeled Hayabusa...
The 1999-2000 model year bikes were not restricted and could top out in the 194-196mph range... from 2001- present, they are restricted to a top speed of 186mph (300kph). Of course, it takes very little to derestrict the later bikes... both my 'Busas ran a TRE (timing retard eliminator) that bypassed the restriction by making the ECU think that the bike was in 5th gear instead of 6th. There's always a way around big brother's meddling.

Super Glide Custom purchased new in 2011. It's my first road bike, although I grew up riding dirt bikes. Road Route 66 from Illinois to Kingman, AZ and then headed north to Vegas that first summer. Hell of a trip.

Re: Motorcycle-licensed pilots
I had a Honda Trail 90 in the '60s when I was a kid. I recently acquired a '69 model that I have fixed up. They are fun little bikes that will go anywhere.
