A Beechcraft B200 Super King Air was destroyed in an accident near Akureyri Airport (AEY), Iceland. The medic and one of the pilots were killed. The other pilot received minor injuries.
The air ambulance plane had transported a patient to Reykjavik, Iceland and was returning to Akureyri. Since a Fokker passenger plane was about to depart, the flight had to hold to the west of the airport.
While in a left hand turn, the airplane lost height. The left wing touched the ground and the airplane broke up while impacting terrain at Hlíðarfjall Road, northwest of Akureyri Airport. A post-impact fire erupted.

I read somewhere else that the pilot was a 'community member' of the dragstrip where he crashed...then it begins to look like a buzzjob gone bad...

Wow. That explanation does sound plausible, I suppose. Looking at the cloud cover, I was wondering if someone got disoriented, spiral dove out of the cloud and by fluke just happened to be over the dragstrip when they couldn't recover in time.

The text under the video on the Liveleak page alludes to the Captain deciding to go buzz his colleagues at the drag strip:

Investigation is still active, plane was fully functional and well maintained. This was not an emergency landing. Co-Pilot has not
commented publicly but it is known that he made remarks to the Captain about the dangerous flying.

Captain had requested a go around moments before landing at an airport close by and flew dangerously fast and low heading to
dragstrip according to witnesses and crashed. Captain had close connections to the club running the dragstrip.

This is the Co-Pilot's second plane accident, excactly 12 years prior to the crash he had an emergency landing where the medic
that died treated him for minor injuries.

Like so many things in piloting, buzzing safely (if that is really possible anyway) is a practiced skill. However, and rightfully so, there is little opportunity to practice this skill in your employer's aircraft, unless you're in the aerial applications business. So, an occasional pilot who has not practiced this skill, let alone on type, in a rare moment of "the boss is not watching", decides to have a go. Bad idea! The fact that you survived buzzing your girlfriend's house in the rental 172 once, does not mean the King Air you're now flying is going to do it the same way. There's a whole lot more inertia to overcome, and much less time to do it in!

If you choose to be a flying professional, be a flying professional. Professionals do not take the company plane for a joy ride - period! A contract I was partly responsible for, with a million dollar modified Cessna 207 and four years of effort and client trust invested, came to an abrupt and fatal end when the pilot, on the first unsupervised flight of the contract, decided to joy ride in it.

If you want to joy ride, buy the plane first.

And do it by yourself, or let your passengers make an informed consent to accept both your skills and limitations.

I have hesitated to comment on this because it is so awful. It is particularly bad since it is well documented and is one of those events where you can see early on where it is going bad and recognize what the recovery is. It is also possible to see when the outcome is inevitable (nose pitched down in the roll and pulling). I would almost bet it had been done before and would have been done again if it hadn't ended on this day in this way.

Had he come from the opposite direction, he could have taken then entire dragstrip clubhouse, garages, crews and spectators... This clip, unfortunately, has tremendous educational value. Reminds me of the B52 airshow crash where the pilot was also feared by crewmates and ended up killing a bunch of them due to his cowboy attitude.

For those who say ¨buy your own aircraft for buzz jobs¨.... I beg to differ... buzz jobs are never worth it and put everyone at risk for a short cheap thrill. Nobody on the ground admires a buzzjob anyway, they all think the pilot is a frickin idiot.

By the time you re flying a kingair or the like you should be grown up enough to no longer feel the need to buzz your buddys/girlfriend/random strangers. And before that point in your career you should be working hard enough at building a professional reputation that buzzjobs should be out of the question.

And all that aside, before the issue even comes up, you should have the judgement and skill to avoid crashing into the ground in a spiral dive when you can see where you re going!

Better off not to do buzz jobs. Used to do them a lot in the bad old days with a skydiving aircraft. Of course it was wrong. But if you are going to survive, best to give yourself some margin for error which I always did when I was young and foolish and zooming past a few buildings. That seems to have been a part of the skydiving culture back then.

This guy looks like he was attempting a near vertical slice at an extremely low altitude in order to wow people. Not a good idea. Perhaps he was influenced by pictures of an F-14 doing a similar thing by an aircraft carrier. Who knows. Leave yourself some margin or better yet, don't do it for a variety of reasons.
