I've missed these guys! But I'm afraid the race to the bottom era is in full swing now. I can't imagine any US airline being fundamentally different than another these days.
Off topic: Anyone remember the "friendship lounge" on UA?

I can't even imagine the business case that would make any investors all hot and bothered over this one...

Whats next on the list - somebody gonna resurrect Braniff.......

Then again if it(Eastern) gets off the ground, it will create employment of some sort - not a bad thing I guess.

It doesn't matter, airlines are sexy and seem to make investors act in completely irrational ways.

I was reading an article about this. The author speculated that in the last 75 years airlines have destroyed over 50 Billion dollars of shareholder equity.

You mean the random financial author Warren Buffet? Yeah I think he knows a thing or two about investments...

I don't think airlines even qualify as "bad" investments; rather as "How the frack did you think it was a good idea?!?!?" type investments.

If nothing else they'll have a cool paint job. In some small way it'll offset the atrocity that is the new AA scheme.

The pathetic thing is there won't be a shortage of knuckleheads tripping over themselves with SJS trying to get a job with this version of "Eastern".

I had a 64.5 year old jump seater the other day. He is living in South Florida. And is an investor with the new Eastern.
Where they have an advantage is that they are being run by retired and almost retired airline pilots. With good connections with the FAA. I think they are going to have an easy time with meeting the regulations. Where i see them having difficulty is that pilots aren't really good at business. They have a conscience. And that in today's world will be a large obstacle to overcome.
I hope they succeed though.
