Airplane Down?

Post by bush pilot »

has anybody heard of a plane going down over or near Muskoka? we were flying down to City Center and as we were going over we saw a Herc flying under us that was trying to Triangulate a beacon that was going off.

We live in the area. We had at least 12 passes at low level by what looked like a 2 engine herc. type a/c.
Seems like a large response for an ELT left on. This was over the evening from just after 8:00 pm until 11:00 or so.

We live a bit south of Parry Sound. Between 8:00 and 11:00 last evening we had about 12 low level passes by transport sized herc type a/c. Isn't that an unusually large response for an ELT left on?

If there is an ELT going offand they can't positively confirm that it was accidently left on or triggered, they will treat it as an emergency. Would you expect otherwise?

One pass would have told them it was at Parry Sound. We're 30 miles south of there and we had low level passes all evening, so yes. I would expect otherwise.

What do you think the accuracy of an ELT homing is?! What would you say if as soon as a Herc on a SAR mission flew over an airport during its SAR pattern would say "F it, it has to be anaccidental ELT, only to find out it was an accident a few miles off the airpor days later?

The fact that it was the evening is irrelevant.

Rescue 337 was over Honey Harbor at 8:20PM. I flew over it @ 4500 from CNK4.

Hopefully it doesn't take them another 11 years to find whatever they are looking for...

I highly doubt that this was in response to the incident from ELEVEN YEARS AGO mentioned earlier in this thread.

So your nimby attitude is towards the low flying aircraft that potentially saved boaters lives? There's something very disturbing about the attitude that a low flying SAR airplane disrupted your evening enough to come on a public forum and bash it...Do you happen to live near Toronto Island normally? I bet you like your steak cooked well done too

You have all wrong. I love to see aircraft overhead. I was only trying to get info. You'll note if you look at the thread that when I did find out the reason I posted the link to solve everyone's curiosity. An obvious search going on causes many questions. I had many neighbours asking what was up because of my background. Pull your horns in.

Unfortunately that's how most conversations go on this forum.

Here, I'll demonstrate:

For "Bob", I'll use the letter "B", and for "Angry Anonymous AvCanada Wanker" I'll use the letters "AAAW":

B: "A herc flew over my house. Anybody know what it was looking for?"

AAAW: "Probably an ELT, stupid"

B: "But it flew over twelve times. Maybe it was looking for something other than an ELT"

AAAW: "Oh, I see. You must be one of those aeroplane-hating NIMBY Toronto-Island assholes who likes to kiss their own butt and smells like an elephant's butt and looks like a butt. Why don't you fuggoff."

B: "turns out it was looking for a boat"

Yeah, those darned search teams being thorough and all.... Sometimes while flying search, I've had to orbit for hours! First to locate, then to guide surface crews in, and sometimes to assure they make it safely out too. The best advice is to let the SAR crews do their job, and thank them under your breath repeatedly. Then remind yourself they are there for you too, even when you make the mistake a very long way from where the neighbours are!

Is that a reference to Bill Barilko? If whoever they find, leads to the Leafs winning a cup, I'm sure they'll be happy about it.
