Parachute Jumping - Regulations?
Hiya guys. Dumb question: we have a Maule and I have some jumper friends asking me if I could dump them. Is it legal for me to do so?
The aircraft flight manual specifies removal of the doors for this purpose, and the different flight restrictions under those circumstances, so I think I'm ok there.
I've looked in the online CARs and found this:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/Regse ... htm#602_25
and this:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/Regse ... htm#602_26
which seem reasonable. But I'm worrying there's some other sections of the CARs that will result in me getting another stack of registered letters from Transport that alleged I have contravened CAR 952.66 through 982.356.
I've done a google search, too, and nothing turned up.
But I have this uneasy feeling that to dump jumpers, I need an Air Carrier Operating Certificate with an AMO, an MCM, PPCs for the pilots and CRM training, and dispatch personnel.
Assuming this is not the case, if someone offers to compensate me for the jumps, is it legal for me to accept it? I have a commercial pilot's licence but the aircraft is privately registered. Does it matter who owns the aircraft?

Para Drops
You'll need to contact your local Transport Canada, General Aviation, office. They'll issue you a Special Flight Operating Certificate (SFOC) for Para Drops. It's a pretty straight forward process. In nut shell, they'll need to know who the pilot is, the aircraft and the names and qualifications of the jumpers. Additionally, you'll need a detailed map of the drop zone. I don't recall if there is a fee, but I'm sure they'll let you know.

Hey Hedley, I was a chief pilot at a drop zone. This is what is now required. The SFOC now only applies if you are doing a one time demo drop. This has to be done by duly qualified and licenced jumpers. To use an aircraft for jumping you now need an aoc. There is no provision for a private aircraft to allow jumping unless it is being leased or used with provision at a recognised dropzone under a 702 aoc. If it is a temporary dropzone then a notam must be issued, and you still have to operate under someones aoc as a temporary base.

Thanks guys! I did some more googling and found this:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/gener ... ction3.htm
which referred me to CAR 603 where I found this:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/CivilAviation/Regse ... htm#603_36
But momma always said I wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, and I'm confused. CAR 603.36 says:
-- cut --
DIVISION III - PARACHUTING
Application
603.36 This Division applies in respect of the conduct of parachute descents
(a) in or into controlled airspace or an air route; and
(b) over or into a built-up area or open-air assembly of persons.
-- cut --
I think the regs only require an SFOC if you wish to parachute into controlled airspace (or built-up area) both of which I don't think apply to me.
And I misunderstanding the regs? (again)
Sorry for being a dummy.[/i]
