That would seem a very easy commute as Westjet has 4 non-stops a day. Being on reserve would not be so easy though.

Does anybody know what is happening with the hiring? Is there a course starting in February? Is there a course in March? Is the hiring has come to a full stop?

There was a class which started yesterday. 8 people, 6 people on the A310/B737, 2 people on the A330/B737. Don't know how much more hiring there will be, but there will likely be a course per month for the next few months I imagine. Initially they said 30-40 new hires total. So far there have been 16.

Are you sure about the 330 yo-yo's? I didn't see any new-hire positions for that in the last award.

I have a friend in the Feb 3 class, he told me there were 2 330 swingers.

Wow, good for them. It's surprising that more senior pilots did not bid for the 330/737.

Anyone know about the March or April courses? Have all calls gone out or are they still hiring? Any non-737 rated guys getting calls?

Cheers!

Looks like the dual type vacancies are filled and new job posting is for 737 vacancies only. Closing date March 24. Still listing 737 type endorsement on the minimum requirements.

They should get filled as soon as the sunwing guys get laid off.....

You want ouch???

http://ca.reuters.com/article/idCAL3N0MA48P20140313
"Transat's net loss in the first quarter ended Jan. 31 widened to C$25.6 million ($23.0 million), or 67 Canadian cents per share, from C$15.1 million, or 39 Canadian cents per share, a year earlier."

There's ouch for you!

Now when will everybody learn that working together as pilots and respecting and understanding eachother's company better will actually us all in the long run? A strong Air Transat is good for Sunwing pilots, and a strong Sunwing is good for Air Transat pilots. But you guys would rather see the competition be taken out. What happens then is a less expensive rival comes out of the ashes and lowers the bar for everybody. Instead we need to focus on raising the bar industry-wide for everybody's benefit.

However, back to attacking one another. Have fun girls.

Aerosexual,

Not sure why you are attacking me. I did not agree with the previous comment that was made. As you said, we are on the same team.

No attack intended, just a continuation of the conversation. But the sooner everybody realizes that playing together gets us further ahead, the better off we will all be.

The reason is that they will need about 70 or more new pilots for the next winter season and it takes time to train those guys. They will operate more aircrafts than this winter. No layoffs so far, some are still leaving to Transat....personal choices.

It seems like Air Transat has stopped hiring as well, taking on less new pilots than originally anticipated. It should be interesting to see how Sunwing manages their winter flying requirements. The fact that they are starting this early shows that they are concerned but at least they are being proactive.

Good day,

Does anybody know how Air Transat assigned seniority to new pilots? Pull a name out of a hat? You can PM me.
