Edmonton Airspace Redesign
The AIC outlining Edmonton's post-city centre airspace has been published effective May 29th.

While similar to the proposals sent out for comment last fall, NavCanada has slipped in a Mode C requirement to much of the new Class E airspace underneath the 7000' Class C ring.

Re: Edmonton Airspace Redesign
Edmonton airspace is ridiculous. Last night talking to for 30 minutes Terminal there was about 6 planes going into Parkland and dead quiet for YEG. I am hoping that they at least raise the airspace to 4600 above Parkland in the next airspace change so you can at least over fly the field at 1500'. I wonder what they will do when Parkland's approaches are published.
Re: Edmonton Airspace Redesign
From what was outlined at a recent talk by NavCanada, I think the chance of raising the Class C above Parkland to be very unlikely. Approach paths for YEG are being tweaked in a way that is going to be putting more and more controlled traffic over Parkland. Their suggestion was to get clearance over the airport in Class C which obviously would be the most prudent thing to do. I pointed out that those who do not will be flying at the exact pattern height of Parkland as they skirt under the airspace. That did not seem to be a concern to NavCanada.
The fix for this it seems as advertised is that the back of the VTA is going to have suggested routing in and out of Parkland.
I have never owned a VTA.

I never figured out the first plan so whatever...

Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......
Re: Edmonton Airspace Redesign
Shouldn't be required. Look at Airdrie's proximity to YYC's approaches. It'll be almost directly under 17L and provides only 1500' AAE.
