I think I'll go. It would be the first time I go to an airshow!
Is the Saturday and Sunday program the same or is it worth it to stay both days?

I was told it's the same on both days, but don't
that as gospel - it never is!

Airshows are sort of dynamic. Sometimes the best part is something you didn't expect. A plane that you like shows up even though it was not scheduled. Getting to watch it land is nice.

This might not be relevant to this show but for example. One of my favorite airshow moments was years ago, after one at Penhold AB. The cf-18 did a low and over of the runway at 40 feet above it or less before departure. I would estimate based on watching dragsters go by at a similar viewing distance, he was going 400+ mph. The heat was intense.

Geeeeze Beef, of all places Penhold. When I was 12 I used to ride my bike there from Red Deer and hide in the tall grass watching the Harvards doing circuits..only over 50 years ago, lol. At one of the airshows a Sabre jet came diving in and broke the sound barrier and half the windows in the hangars...those were the days!

I love that airport. I almost managed to move there about 6 years ago to one of those former PQs.

I like to hang around after the last day of airshows to watch everything leave. Especially if there's lots of interesting aircraft on static display.

Yeah there are way too many variables for it to end up the same on both days. Weather of course plays a big role but there are also mechanical issues that always seem to crop up just when you want to show off a plane so one aircraft gets substituted for another etc.

My advice would be to show up for both days and frankly as with many airshows the practice day/week before can be the most fun! If I did not have to bloody work oversees this week I'd be hanging around the airport all week watching everybody arrive and practice and eating in that great little airport resturant.

Well the Friday practice day went off without a hitch and it was more or less continuous aerobatics over the airport from about 8:00am till the snowbirds practice at 2. The ramp right now is jam packed and the weather today should be not bad.

We have a lot of smaller plane acro this year which is nice including Gord Price who is the inventor of the Ultimate series biplane who is flying the prototype Yak 52. His practice was very cool, I've not seen the Yak flown so nicely down low, lots of low speed tumbles etc. Sukhoi of course Rick Volker with his balls to he walls stuff - watch for his rolling 1/2 reverse cubans with tumbles off the top, we have an Edge 540 which did not pratcie yesterday but the paint scheme is insane even the prop has detailed graphics and an Ultimate 10-200 doing very pretty very up close in your face low level. Wing walker of course.

F18's, Snowbirds and a mess load of warbirds etc. doing their usual things with lots of noise and smoke ;)

Looks like I'll be right seat in the Antonov AN-2 helping with the jump run.

I am getting reports that the show has been cancelled for this year and that the aircraft in the collection will
be somewhat mothballed this season
With much of the staff let go, there seems to be some real down sizing going on at VWC

Yes, sadly no VWOC airshow this season.
They are seeking a new director so until
then flying is limited to participation in some
nearby airshows and events with a reduced set
of participating aircraft.

There is one large planned event called the "Hadfield Summit". Details are
here:

This seems to be a continuation of what was happening in the winter
All a/c back in Mike's name
Staff on contract for events only
Fleet mothballed except for 4 aircraft ( this may have changed since then)
I have also been told that the only flying we will see will be from Mike himself (?)

Its too bad really as VWC has good intentions however its not realistic to expect to turn a profit from such an endeavour.
I have seen this many times and the situation has all the symptoms of a collection that is on the way out .
Lets hope this is not happening in this case . Its a great collection with some great people

My count is ~7 planes flying and ~7 pilots.

This past long weekend + Tuesday 5 aircraft were flown by 3 different pilots. I was there.
Finch, P51, P40, Harvard, Fox moth. I took the Finch over to the Rockliffe aviation museum for a shakedown flight and lunch on Saturday and will take her to St Hubert at the end of the month along with one of the warbirds. Anyway just wanted to correct a couple of errors in this thread.

That is consistant with what I stated in reply #15
The entire fleet with the exception of those four aircraft are somewhat mothballed unless they find paying gigs
The Foxmoth has not been owned by VWC for sometime
Am being told that those four will only be doing local events unless paid to appear.
This is understandable in order to cover op. costs
Glad to hear they are hanging on to some pilots at this point
