Edmonton and CYYC controllers tonight

Post by arctic_slim »

Just wanted to say that the guys in the controller seats were amazing tonight in Edmonton FIR and Calgary airport. They had to deal with flow delays, shitty weather making half the planes make devisations over/under/left/right, guys coming in having already done the GPS updates even though they dont take effect until tonight and finding themselves going to waypoints that are not active yet or not having waypoints anymore and doing like 3 atis changes and runway changes in the space of an hour while dealing with all kinds of planes coming in from all directions down to 200'-400' ceilings. You guys did a fine job tonight getting everyone sorted out. The arrivals guy on 125.9 especially was like a machine just spitting out perfectly timed instructions.

I was so paranoid the entire time that I would somehow miss a call or messing up and throw the whole system out of whack for everyone behind me. In the space of an hour I listented to ATIS Sierra, Tango and Uniform, it was crazy, like organized chaos.

Well done to all of you.

While I don't work there, as an ATC, I really appreciate these type of comments. I am the first one to thank pilots when they help us out and it is good knowing you know we are doing the best serve you! Weather can be a b**** sometimes but that's when it gets fun as ATC, I know for pilots not so much but it sure can change the routine quick!

Yes, we've had the first few of what will no doubt be many nasty little cells going thru YYC. Like clockwork, between 2 and 6 pm, for the next three months, they'll be there just to make things interesting. The hailstop aircraft are starting ops in a couple of days, too. I think they've had record years of flights for the last few. Thanks for the nice commentary, OP.

Fully agree. Flew YEG-YYC both yesterday and the day before were outstanding service on super busy and challenging days.
