10 700s, I believe fins 001 and up are going. They'll be replaced by 10 new 800s.Airbusfan wrote:Heard a rumor WJ is getting rid of some -700's to WN...?

It will be tails 201 and up going to WN. First one leaves this September.
001 002 etc. are leased airplanes.

Re: Westjet 737NG's ??
If true this is bad.
No replacements until 2017 or so.
That means total tails for the 737 fleet at end of 2014 and into 2015 at sub 100.
Whip Saw.
Hope I'm wrong.

If the number of tails is being reduced, even temporarily, then I guess hiring (and Encore flow) will slow to a crawl next year. That can't be good news if you're trying to use flow as a carrot to attract applicants to Encore.

Doubt even the announced pay raises will make a difference in attracting talent to Encore.BE20 Driver wrote:If the number of tails is being reduced, even temporarily, then I guess hiring (and Encore flow) will slow to a crawl next year. Re: Westjet 737NG's ??
You'd be surprised. Apparently just the posting for Direct Entry Captains seems to have gotten a few people's attention. What they don't realize is that even though they'll skip the 6 months in the right seat, they'll still wait for the 200 people who are already there to flow up first. Even at 50% flow, that'll be a long wait. If they went to 100% flow tomorrow, and Westjet takes 50 people per year, people getting in now could be waiting 3-4 years. That's without a hiring freeze at mainline.dhc# wrote:Doubt even the announced pay raises will make a difference in attracting talent to Encore.

What pay raises? An increase in MMG is not a raise.dhc# wrote: Doubt even the announced pay raises will make a difference in attracting talent to Encore.

Whoa there. When the sale to WN was announced, they also announced a new order of 10 737-800s
This year they will get 7 737s and sell 5 to WN. (+2)
Next year the plan is to get 10 new 737s and sell the other 5. (+5)
So, yes, you are wrong.

Alaska Airlines is doing the same thing with 3 of their 700's to be replaced by Boeing with 800's. With the better CASM and WN leasing all their 717's to delta their may be an opportunity to do more of this for WS

If memory serves - after the sale of the tails to WN was announced, the MAX order followed. With the MAX order - new tails were deferred.matrix wrote:jjj wrote:If true this is bad.

Here's a link publicly available on WestJet.com of the fleet plans for the next bunch of years.

Look up a few post there Matrix...
I am very curious as to why Air Canada didn't order 700Max's but ordered 900's. Apparently after Alaska had a scare in YYC with their in 900 WestJet figured it wasn't worth ordering?

Re: Westjet 737NG's ??
The Max 7 is considered to be the 600 of the NG series. CASM is so much lower with the Max 8 and trip cost is negligible compared with the Max 7 with only 2 customers it is looking like those orders may become -8's and there may be no Max -7 anyway.brooks wrote:Look up a few post there Matrix...

As for Air Canada they were looking at either the c-series or the E-2 to fulfill their 100-150 seat requirement but decided on keeping their current fleet of E-190's.
The 900 has an issue with brake cooling and turn around times and WS is all about fleet utilization. As for AS having a scare, bean counters decide which airplanes airlines should order not pilots telling stories that begin with "No shit there I was".
Re: Westjet 737NG's ??
Boeing has an aircraft approaching B757 weights dissipating brake energy on a wheel system using half of the discs. No wonder the aircraft has a reputation for poor stopping performance.leftoftrack wrote:

Re: Westjet 737NG's ??
The brake energy limits of the -900 are actually more of an issue for takeoff performance than landing, especially at higher altitude airports.
Re: Westjet 737NG's ??
Anybody have a clue what they are going to do on the overhead panel? Will they finally install an Auto button?

Apparently not.brooks wrote:Anybody have a clue what they are going to do on the overhead panel? Will they finally install an Auto button?
Re: Westjet 737NG's ??
YEAH...! Just got an e-mail from Westie saying the aircraft type for my flight to SXM has been switched to the -800, hope it's one of scimitar winglets..
