Re: PA-22 Colt crash
Hit the trees during takeoff, eh?
It's +30C here today - not sure what
the density altitude was at the time he
trimmed the trees - but with the low
power and the short wing, pilots like to
haul back on the column when the trees
get close, and put it on the back side of
the power curve and sink into the trees.
Had a student try to do that to me today.

Hmmm, the article was pretty touch and go too...
As opposed to?....fixed-wing airplane....
I'm not sure what to make of this, other than to observe that the wheels were not on the ground, among other parts.......he saw the entire plane on the ground...
Perhaps an AvCanada naysayer plant CS.....Had a student try to do that to me today.
Re: PA-22 Colt crash
Sundridge should be OK for PA22 ops. But it has been a long time since I was there. Maybe it depends on the runway.

Re: PA-22 Colt crash
Perhaps it was an airline pilot with that dreaded "book learnin' stuff" in his head.
After all, conventional wisdom says none of them can fly .. not a single one.... and they are hazardous to the health of "real pilots."
CS should have just let him crash into the trees to gain "real experience" through the Law of Intensity.

Re: PA-22 Colt crash
I don't know where in hell the black
airplane came from. Student was on
my right wingtip, I was lead on the
left

Eric, I and Rob Holland probably don't
fly as well as a straight-and-level autopilot
hero, but we try anyways.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say someone touched long and was too slow going.PilotDAR wrote:Hmmm, the article was pretty touch and go too...
Technically there is one non fixed wing airplane registered in Canada. As opposed to?....fixed-wing airplane....

This looks more cramped than a Pitts, or is he just a really big guy?

Yeah, I suppose but from what I was told by U of T people, that one needed to be fixed!Technically there is one non fixed wing airplane registered in Canada
Yes, Sundridge would be amply suitable for the PA twenty something of your choice.Sundridge should be OK for PA22 ops
Re: PA-22 Colt crash
Now c'mon Mr. Colonel. I know you can put on a damn good airshow and everything(have seen one) but didn't you say just the other day that one of the students you had done some training on ended up at YYZ's runway 33 instead of Brampton.

Re: PA-22 Colt crash
Well, I never did like the YYZ controllers very much ...
towers over both of us. He's too tall to pull
G, but no one ever told him that
Jim Leroy was too tall, too, but that didn't
seem to slow him down:

Re: PA-22 Colt crash
Not mine! I flew in the back of that airplane
as a pax, getting dropped off in west Texas to
ferry an airplane back to Canada.
Accident did not come as a huge surprise. That
pilot was no stranger to very high risks. The four
bars here would go bananas at what he routinely
did.

Re: PA-22 Colt crash
Hit a wire, not trees.
The privately-owmed Piper PA-22-108 (C-FWMR) was conducting circuits at Runway 04, Sundridge ON (CPE6). During final approach for the third touch and go the aircraft main landing gear snared the wire on the top of the airport perimeter fence. The aircraft decelerated rapidly and impacted the ground short of the runway, coming to a rest nearly vertical after causing significant damage to the propeller, engine cowl and left wing. The pilot and sole occupant received minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for evaluation.
