Suggestions for a nephew...

Post by HiLo »

My nephew is 16, he's got 2 years of high school left, he's currently working on his RPP/PPL. He wants to be a pilot for a living, and he will be going to do an undergrad in geography or economics.

Would this be a decent/doable plan:

- Finish high school already having a PPL (perhaps with some ratings)
- Take a "GAP year" (essentially a year off before University) and get his CPL done (how long would it take him with PPL already complete?)
- Work in NWO or instruct during the summers (would the instructing part be possible? I never did that so I don't know)
- How many hours would he have (TT) after 4 summers, and what would his job prospects be thereafter if he took the instructor or the NWO route. I'm hearing Georgian is taking instructors...

The reason I ask is that my career path has not been typical so I can't relate as to a timeline, etc...

There are lots of seasonal, part-time, and on-again-off-again instructors at my local flight school.
