Absurd Parking fees in Quebec City (CYQB)

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share with you a new pricing policy that may affect your summer travel plans in Eastern Canada.
Quebec City now only has one FBO (AVJet / Transol). That FBO has decided to put in place a new, discriminatory pricing policy.

The way the policy works, in summary, is the following:
You don't get gas, you pay a 80$ parking fee for the first day, and onwards.
You get gas, but it's less than twice the daily fee (160$), you pay 40$.
If you get more gas than twice the daily fee, parking is free only the first day.

This means that if you stay for the weekend in Quebec City, you're paying 200$ just in parking fees. 100LL us currently 2.45$ there.

This is only if you're a Canadian registered plane.
If you're an American plane, expect to pay more.
If you're a government plane, expect to pay EVEN more.

The policy is so stupid that in many cases you're better buying a single litre and paying the reduced fee, or else getting more than you need, literally dumping it on the ramp, and pay less.

Heh, seems like another place/organization that for some reason feels that if you fly an aircraft, you can afford to pay whatever price they decide to throw at you. None of the individual payees seems to understand or care that they are one of a long list of people demanding more and more money from the finite supply of the average pilot. Effing lovely.

Here is an example where a strong national organization might be able to help.

If COPA were to write a letter expressing their concern, explain the reality of small aircraft ownership and point out that, unfortunately they will have to advise their members (and through their association with AOPA the US members as well) not to use that facility, perhaps it would have an impact - or not! COPA's information on airports (places to fly) relies on members updating the info, most are very out of date.

In general Canada has the crappiest FBO's going, crap service, crap facilities that are charging KTEB prices with out anywhere near the level of service I get there.

As for Quebec city goes I have never been to YQB but when in YUL its actually been pretty good, I just crack a joke about Toronto or the Leaf suck and say bonjour or bonswa and they are always willing to help you out. Also shoot them a crispy Sir Willie Laurie and it seams to go along way. However I'm not paying the bill and grabbing 4000 liters of gas I expect a little service.

I don't have a problem understanding most of it with my very rusty Grade 10 French. It's actually quite amazing how much easier a subject you are familiar with is to read in a foreign language.... .... and it's much easier than trying to match characters in Richmond BC.... (esp Traditional Characters)

Yeah...right...an anglo/american customer should start searching the internet for translation engines so he can understand the information provided...Great customer service...NOT!

Are there any other options for parking ga at Quebec City? Thanks , local knowledge is everything. Westjet is promising to fly us there from toronto for 175 bucks! I note the maximum parking for a car is 16 dollars for 24 hours. Cytz is at the 35 dollars a night zone. That's about what the market can bear.....80 for a 172 is quite high. Mind you folks need to take on some gas, that's how the fbo,s get paid. i have seen corp jets pay 300 bucks rather than take on fuel where the min was 200 gals. corp fuel farms are not helping anyone in ga. that was stateside. i think 30 ish a night with one night free for a fillup would be about ok at quebec. copa where are you....

If you or anybody else are insulted by me calling Quebec a pinecone republic tough..grow a thicker skin.
And yes, since I was born there ,grew up there and still live there I am perfectly entitled to denigrate my own province when I see this kind of marketing stupidity over and over and over.

Why not make it as easy as possible for the largest number of potential customers to read about the services offered and encourage them to use those services and spend their money?

If you drive across the border at New York state from Montreal something like the first 100 miles all the signs on the interstate are bilingual....why? Because when it comes to marketing the Americans are smart and they realize that if nothing else the courtesy of highway signs in French as well as English will leave,at the very least, a good subconsious feeling in the minds of francophone visitors,especially those who are lacking in English. Now do you think the Quebec government has the same courtesy towards the thousands upon thousands of Americans driving up to Quebec? Hell no....not one highway directional sign between the main border crossing point and Montreal to try and make it easier and more welcoming for American tourists....like your average American would understand "sens unique" or "Ralentissez"

Ok so to be more direct is there anywhere else to park at quebec city lesage other than the only FBO, sometimes there are other spots at a flying club, private ramp etc, etc?
If one goes to the south shore levi etc how much is a cab into the city? roughly?
