The Unifor demonstration went on as planned with speeches by BC Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair and Unifor BC Area Director Gavin McGarrigle over amplified PA system that could be clearly heard by the deligates meeting inside the ADSE building.

Re: Cascade Aerospace Strike
At the same time as the ADSE event, both sides received a final settlement proposal presented by the FMCS mediators. It included union concessions on vacation entitlement, company-matched pension contributions, and capped Cost Of Living Allowance increases.
The membership voted 95% in favour to accept the settlement proposal.
Now in the 10th week of what had effectively become a Lock-Out, the company stalled as long as they possibly could, eventually announcing rejection of the Federal Mediators recommendation because it meant keeping the position of a 100% release Plant Chair.
This was contentious because the company had always been keeping that subject as a back burner negotiating tool, though statements had been made by all levels of company representation, including by Ken Rowe directly to the mediators, that if the rest of the bargaining came together then the Plant Chair item would not be an issue.
Well, it became THE issue.
Members at the highest levels of each organization and government had previously been in contact, but now IMP was refusing to communicate with the mediators for an explanation.
This prompted Unifor President Jerry **** to write the following letter:

Re: Cascade Aerospace Strike
This letter, followed up by a reportedly stern conversation that Unifor Pres Jerry **** had with IMP Aerospace Pres David Gossen has resulted in a tentative back-to-work agreement being ratified by the membership this afternoon.
All new contract language will be adopted into a 4 year deal and the Plant Chair position will remain status quo, its future to be determined within six months by binding decision of a mutually agreed upon arbitrator.
The company's original demand for a two-tiered production class structure was negotiated off the table in exchange for the previously mentioned concessions in vacation and pension entitlements, but with "grandfathering". For example; the expired contract had a 6 week vacation provision for those with 25 years of service. This will be replaced with 5 weeks after 25 years. However, those who currently have 6 weeks vacation and those who will achieved 25 years in the life of this contract will still get it. Everyone else concedes.

Re: Cascade Aerospace Strike
So it's back-to-work on Monday. Everyone is just so pleased.
The Union
The Company
The Government
Still have the issue of the Plant Chair to be settled or arbitrated, but at least the road camping is over.
As an aside, our good pal and buddy, PM Harper, was in and out of YXX on Wednesday and it just so happens that the Shell Aerocentre he used is located at the end of the dead-end road (Townline Rd) that Cascade is on. Amusingly, instead of a quick and easy exit onto the street immediately at Shell, the 9-car entourage processional (plus Fire Truck escort, no less) decided to drive clear across to the other side of the field to exit airside at the main terminal rather than drive past the picket line.
Thanks Stephen. You were all smiles in the hangar right before the last federal election...

Re: Cascade Aerospace Strike
Well the conservatives won that seat with 65%, doubling the combined votes of every other party in that riding. The NDP MP from the adjacent riding did show up however and support the strikers. But Harper wasnt loyal to his supporters, and Cascade employees wont be loyal to those who supported them in the strike. I predict the Cons will win with a plurality in the next election too.moviistarr wrote:Thanks Stephen. You were all smiles in the hangar right before the last federal election...
Anyways, hope you enjoyed your summer off, now get back to work on Monday you lazy hippies!
