Keynote Speaker:
Dr. Jill Oakes, Centre for Earth Observation Science
University of Manitoba
Dr. Jill Oakes’ current research at the University of Manitoba in conjunction with the Manitoba aviation community identifies strategies which can be implemented to inspire, train, and retain more women in the field of aviation.
She has been a Commercial pilot for approximately 35 years, took 20 years to build her Acrosport II from scratch, and has more recently completed a kit-built Land Africa.
Jill flies her biplane from Winnipeg to Detroit and west to Seattle and Victoria every summer; once the snow flies the Land Africa is put on skis and used for local winter fun.
Dr. Oakes is the Project Director for C-FLUG, a C150 that women pilots interested in keeping current or building hours are able to borrow significantly below cost.
