Re: Wasaya
Latest I heard today was that the banks have assigned somebody to oversee everything. Management right now apparently can't even sign any checks without having it approved by the bank reps. I've seen this before, it's usually one step before bankruptcy, so maybe they will try to turn it around. They should be able to, as long as they get decent money management in place.
Re: Wasaya
Best thing that could happen would be them going bankrupt and be done with the mess.

Re: Wasaya
Rumor has it that they approached a local conveince store manager to run the YPL base. Zero expirence of any kind regarding aviation. They seem to be so desperate to hire someone local to save the 5 or 6 hundred a month housing, plus a few thousand a year for lack of expirence. Savings look great on paper for the bank but with fuel delivery season just around the corner it is obvious there is no concern about successful recovery. Fuel is wasaya's biggest income stream by far and 99% out of YPL. I have seen two managers pulling thier hair out trying to run the season efficiently in the past, typically 24/7 for weeks on end. Wow, Calm Air will benifit, as well as Cargo North. The people up north don't care where the fuel comes from as long as the lights stay on. Perhaps RBC has a vested interest in Calm Air as well.

Would that be the people who own Wasaya?Outsidelookingin wrote:The people up north don't care where the fuel comes from as long as the lights stay on.

Re: Wasaya
Only a rare couple of ownership communities actually support the company as they should. NM5 being the main one. The rest go with the best price, or delivery ability. Seen it lots in the past.
Re: Wasaya
How many planes does Wasaya currently commit to fuel hauling during the fall/ winter? Is it a pretty steady operation? I.E. do they have a large portion of the contract for those NWO communities?

Re: Wasaya
Pretty steady starting late fall, by then most of the trucked fuel from winter roads is almost used up. Start of Jan it starts to increase dramatically, and just before winter roads it goes crazy, all the communities are waiting for trucked fuel, so only want a couple of loads at a time to get them through. But they all want it NOW because they say they may run out. The school has no heat, or the band office, as well I think they frequently divert a lot of the fuel allocated to the generators to equipment to help finish the roads......it gets nuts there, it's a full time job for one manager to just handle fuel. That's why I can't see them gambling on a green manager with no expirence during such a critical time of year.

Word on the street is the chief pilot, (EB), is stepping down and taking a job at Transport. Who will be left to turn the lights off?
Re: Wasaya
How long can Wasaya keep their operating certificate without some of these key personnel? Isn't it a requirement within 30 days or something like that?

These "key" personnel can be replaced in a jiffy.....with many less of them. It's always been an example of too many Chi$fs, and not enough Ind#ans! More top heavy than Jane Mansfield! But without the 160 IQ!

Re: Wasaya
Congrats to EB, good move!! This place is a sinking ship! They started at the wrong level of management!! They should have started at the top. Only heard of one JM getting let go, which should have happened years ago!!
So they start at the flight ops level. Makes no sense! You will never change a place in in the financial trouble they are in by getting rid of guys like SS and jY. These were two solid individuals that were trying to comply with what Transport Canada expected of an airline.
I don't know how this restructuring company thinks that replacing these two individuals will change anything.
The CEO will still hand stuff out for free and not collect the money owed to the company and the CFO will just let this happen!!!
I feel so bad for all the hard working employees of this company. They put in countless hours and blood sweat and tears into doing a good job with what they have.
Only advice is get out before it sinks!!

Re: Wasaya
There was never any commitment to the employees, the only commitment was for the owners, TM, JM to get whatever they could out of the airline. Bled it dry, to bad too, could have been a great little airline, but like I said before RBC is working hard to minimize loss as quickly as possible. Future success is not part of the plan.
Re: Wasaya
What kind of advice is "get out before it sinks" ? Folks are still getting paid. Planes are safe. Pay cheques are cashing. Pilots are logging great time. These things can drag on for years and there is a very good chance they will turn it around with the changes that are being made. jV and Ornge went through tough times and are still around.

Re: Wasaya
Was Wasaya still taking cash bonds from people leading up to all this mess? Are the laid off people getting their bonds back?

Sorry, but if you're dumb enough to toss money into this abyss, you're dumb enough to kiss it goodbye.vrrotate wrote:Was Wasaya still taking cash bonds from people leading up to all this mess? Are the laid off people getting their bonds back?

Re: Wasaya
Wow, that's horrible!
I've never had to do a bond, but I assumed it was an agreement to pay a predetermined sum if you didn't meet you obligation.
I had no idea money was payed up front by the employee.
