Sunwing/Canjet Fleet & Foreign Pilots - Winter 2014-2015

Post by Sunwing738 »

This thread ran last year and was informative so I figured I would start it since it hasn't been started already. As many of you know the winter season is upon us in Canada and with it brings many leased aircraft and foreign pilots, this thread will be to keep track of both Canjet and Sunwing during the Winter months.

Sunwing Fleet:
Over the Summer, Sunwing had 12 aircraft registered in Canada.
Of those 11, 4 aircraft were in Europe this summer flying for Thomson & Travel Service on Wet-Lease: FEAK, FLSW, FTJH, & FYLC.
1 aircraft, FTAH, was on dry-lease to Travel Service and operated as OK-TVJ.
As of Oct 20th, All aircraft are back operating in Canada.

Inside sources say 37 aircraft will make up the fleet in the peak of the winter months.

Gilles Hudicourt wrote: So far, Sunwing applied to the CTA for four Wet-Lease, all from Travel Service. The CTA already approved three of these and delayed approval of the fourth on a technicality, but approval should be forthcoming.

Good and informative post.

So far, Sunwing applied to the CTA for four Wet-Lease, all from Travel Service. The CTA already approved three of these and delayed approval of the fourth on a technicality, but approval should be forthcoming.

Gilles,

4 SW wet leases went to Europe for summer 2014 and 4 TVS wet leases are coming to Canada for winter 2014/2015. For those that are fans of 'balance' I would say that the goal has been met.

As for the 120 TFWP/FLVC pilots - that remains to play out. However, my prediction is contraction and eventually elimination. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I agree and I've said so.

My hope is that Transport Canada will agree with us that the CARs do not allow FLVCs to be issued to allow foreign licensed pilots to fly Commercially in Canada for several consecutive years, thus by-passing the Canadian licencing requirements.

If one wants to fly in Canada for an Operator flying under Sub-Part 705 for a purpose not allowed by 421.07(2), 705.106(3) and 725.106(6), to this pilot needs to have a Canadian licence as required by 705.106(1)(a) and 725.106(6). Period.

I think that those who think fly under 705 while not conforming with the above Regulations do so at their own risk, regardless of the "Licence" Transport Canada provides them with.

Sunwing had made a request to EDSC to import 120 TFW. In the past, ESDC had as a requirement that in order to qualify to import TFW, one had to post an ad for 2 weeks in Canada for Canadian workers. Later this requirement was increased 4 weeks. The latest ESDC requirement however is that the ad must run until the arrival of the TFW, which have not yet arrived, which is why the ad is still running.

No, I merely do it as a hobby and passion for the industry & SWG/CJA in particular. I prefer to focus on the fleets more than the foreign pilots because I enjoy the many different hybrid schemes each winter. It adds some colour to the airport in the dull winter months and are great for spotting.

This thread was created for those who, like me, enjoy following the fleet growth in the winter months, and for those who enjoy following the foreign pilots issue with Mr. Hudicourt leading that charge.

Back to the thread:

FYLC was ferried Warsaw-Reykjavik-Toronto today and rejoined the fleet.

Here is C-GVVH with its new coat of paint, or should I say new sticker?

So does anyone got a call or interview with Sunwing lately?

I've seen there ads everywhere, Workopolis, Canadian Government Jobbank and Quebec Government Jobbank. Are those fake ads to apply for the TFP?

Depends on who you choose to believe. Some, from Gilles camp, will say they are fake. Some, like myself, will say there is more hiring starting in the new year. Believe who you will... Think for yourself.

Fake ads??? Really??

Exactly! and with the Type Rated requirement posted on the ad they can say they are unable to find type rated pilot and request TFP.

But if people are getting call and interviews we can't say they are fake. So that's why I'm asking if anyone got a call from them in the last 2 months? Some ads mention 60 pilots other 42 so they must be hiring. But who?

I know one person that was offered a position. Not type rated, had 703 pic and 705 time. Couldn't take it for personal reasons.

Yawn, right! He is attempting to divert the direction of this thread.

My opinion is that most of the current ads are just smokescreens for TFW hiring. They applied for 120 TFW and must maintain the ads until all the positions meant for TFW have been filled, which wont occur until mid december.

Technically, if you have a 737 type rating now, you must be given priority over the TFW though. So a few Canadians with valid 737 PPCs may be getting calls because that is what the law says they should do.

The one ad that may be different is the 42 pilot ad that begins in Jan 2015. Chances are that Sunwing will no longer be able to import any TFW pilots for the 2015/2016 winter season, which may force them to begin hiring and training Canadians early. This is just a guess on my part.

Air Transat, which intends to operate 12 B737s this coming winter began to hire and train 737 pilots last December in order to have theses pilots ready in time. Sunwing will have to do the same if they are denied the TFW pilots for next year, as I suspect they will be.

They will be down to only the 4 or 5 foreign wet leases that the CTA will allow.

Travel Service OK-TVG ferried into Toronto on Oct 24th via KEF & PRG. Re-registered C-GTVG. This now brings the fleet to 15 aircraft.

C-FTAH with it's new colours for the winter season promoting Nexus Tours, which is part of the Sunwing Travel Group.

This thread is about SWG fleet update, so you can go ahead and update the other number of threads you have started on tfw and bad guys at SWG.

Yawn at this Canadian pilots

http://ekonomika.idnes.cz/cesti-piloti- ... clanek-box

It says that Czech Travel Service is expanding its succesful winter contracts to Canada with a record 130 pilots going over this year with 13 aircraft going to Canada, 11 to Sunwing and 2 to Air Transat (Air Transat is dry leasing 2 737 from them, no foreign pilots).
