As we all know, VNC charts in Canada serve the same purpose as sectional charts in the US. One difference that frustrates me, is the lack of the ICAO identifier on airports on VNCs.

Can't help but wonder what NavCanada's reason is for not including that info...

Re: Canada VNC Chart Question
Personally I have never suffered from not having the identifier on the chart. Why would you want it there?
Re: Canada VNC Chart Question
When actually flying, I don't recall it being an issue, but during flight planning (in the past), it has added the extra step of having to look up the airport identifier to enter into flight planning software (route generation).
Agreed, not a huge deal, but I still wonder why it's not included; at the very least to be consistent with sectional charts south of the border.

Re: Canada VNC Chart Question
Have you ever noticed that roads on Canadian charts are much more obvious than on the FAA versions, but it's much harder to pick out airfields on the NavCanada chart?
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.
Re: Canada VNC Chart Question
At least for most places there is a co-located navaid that gives it away...
Re: Canada VNC Chart Question
In Canada, there are more roads than airports. In the US, there are almost as many airports as there are roads.photofly wrote:Have you ever noticed that roads on Canadian charts are much more obvious than on the FAA versions, but it's much harder to pick out airfields on the NavCanada chart?
OR: Maybe because it's legal to land on roads in Canada, but not in the US?
