Re: First Air
quite unfortunate! hercs leaving, 67 gone, 737 skeds half empty, and ledcor doing the western flying?? How are the heads at 7f in the alpa world allowing that to happen?
Re: First Air
Had the merger with 5T progressed, would the result been different?

Looks like a strategy of scaling back to profitability- movement back to the time of Baffin/Ottawa scheds.
Tough time too for 5T... wonder who will be left standing?

Interesting, I know 4N has been looking for a replacement to their aging Hawkers, and have already settle on ATR's. I'm sure they'd appreciate the already modified combi version....

Re: First Air
Apparently one Herc is officially sold. What this means for everybody on the property I have no idea.
Re: First Air
I heard this too. Hopefully no layoffs. I heard something in the vicinity of 2000 CNRL workers were told to not come to work this past week affecting a ton of 5T flying. Hopefully this is just hearsay and not true.thirdtimecharm wrote:Looks like a strategy of scaling back to profitability- movement back to the time of Baffin/Ottawa scheds.

You sound so sure. The oil industry takes a hit almost every 5 years. It is a minor hiccup along the way for 5T. If 5T play their cards right...they'll be back on track again once the oil prices come back up again.palebird wrote:Get used to it. The glory days for 5T are over.

In 2005 oil was $50/barrel and the sky was falling. My house in yyc doubled in price in the next 15 months.
The big oil players know it takes a decade to start producing oil sands. They are already building for the next boom. It may reduce the number of TFW's but they ride buses usually.

I am getting trolled. You are pretty darn good at it too. Reading a few of your past posts...I can say that you're pretty negative towards First Air and Canadian North anyways.palebird wrote:Positive thinking will keep it all afloat.
Re: First Air
It's time for another correction in the oil patch labour market. Low oil allows them to suspend construction and when it resumes they will be paying less for contractors. Same as the last slide. 5T will ensure it rides the blip out and be in a good position to resume when it picks up again. It's always nice to have long term contracts secured.
Palebird has a hate on for 5T so no surprise to see his remarks.
Isn't this a 7F thread?

I love dropping by once in a while and checking out the fantasy world that 5T and 7F live in. 7F because they can't get any charter work and have to fight 5T for a piece of the scheduled pie and 5T because charter is what they live for. The charter market is very fickle boys. It comes and it goes, like the tides and the seasons. I say boys because you don't have skin thick enough to be men. Grow a set.

Good enough reason for me to throw them on my ignore list.godsrcrazy wrote:Someone sure types like 748ho use to.
So for 7F, did they lose a chief pilot on their ATRs recently? I saw the job posting a few days ago.

Re: First Air
The federal government is looking at running a deficit now, which shows how much of an impact Alberta oil has on the rest of the country. Everyone in BC and back east is loving that Albertans are getting their comeuppance, but that oil revenue has propped up the whole country for the last five years and we're all going to suffer. Those grapes are going to be mighty sour when you realize you'll be sharing them with the rednecks.palebird wrote:Alberta is looking at a recession and a sales tax. Hmmmm. Humble pie.

I believe Summit air has taken over at least one of the mines flying an Avro RJ85.Old fella wrote:Much activity on those diamond mine sites, are 7F and 5T still running B737 ops in there or is that drying up as well

And the bedwetting continues. No worries I hedged myself against these stark realities some time ago. More it goes down the more I smile. Just waiting for buying opportunities now but the bottom is nowhere in sight yet. This is going to be a gooder and the whole landscape will be altered. Got real estate in Alberta or NWT? Sell if you can.
