The Health Quality Council of Alberta has released a review that shows the March 2013 closure of the Edmonton City Centre Airport has not caused patient safety or quality issues. (See the full report below.)

So....is this report accurate???

Just pointing out a fact: Irene Pfeiffer is on the board that did this report, as well as being involved with STARS as a chair of human resources and compensation board committee

In this article it states: "Stars helicopters will be used to shuttle emergency patients from the international airport to hospitals in the city. "

Total bull shit report, I don't think STARS has ever transported a patient from YEG to the hospital yet!
Our wait times have more than tripled since the closure of City Center Airport!

I don't see any comparison to the times when City Centre was used. Now I see the transfer time from EIA to the RAH is about 60 minutes! Wow. What was it when YXD was used? Less than 10?

The report admits some serious issues,

"Several issues were encountered with missing data during the chart review and consequently denominator calculations were adjusted for analysis. Apart from time interval data elements, important records and/or data elements were missing in approximately 20 per cent of the charts reviewed. Some cases had several areas of missing data. "

Sturgeon hospital can be 45-1:30 min depending on traffic and the time of day...one way, now you have crews and planes stuck in YEG out of service for longer periods of time

They studied 232 patient transfer records. Many of the records had to be "adjusted" for missing information....I'm pretty sure any one of the northern medevac planes does more than 232 patients a year, seems a very small number to have used to evaluate the situation. Surely they could have found enough records they didn't have to "adjust"

Based on the history of a forthright approach and complete honesty that was taken during the closing of City Centre, I would have to believe that this follow-up report would have been done in the same manner. As such, it must be absolutely accurate.
