Re: Encore AME jobs
Dash8300: It takes approx. 13 years to reach top pay scale if you are a newly licensed AME. I agree with your statements concerning company policy and pay increments. Advertizing top wage is only part of the equation. More important is how long will it take to get there.
Also part of the problem is where in the wage scale can you put New Hires without pissing off the people that have been at the company for years. With NCA for example if you have been licensed for more then ten years you would be placed in the $36.00 - $38.00 hr pay scale. Each year after you would be getting a $1.00 - $2.00 hr increase to the $44.00 rate. Not sure how this compares with other companies.
Obviously the recent pay increases at Encore will keep the people presently working there. I have seen a dramatic decrease in Encore resumes coming across my desk in the last few months.

Re: Encore AME jobs
Encore Apprentice starts between $18.70 and $19.71 depending on experience and how close you are to a license.
Encore AME starts between $22.48 and $27.41 depending on experience.
Encore Inspector Crew Lead starts at $34.76.
Encore Aircraft Maintenance Lead starts at $36.41.
ACA premium is a percentage of base pay that starts at 7% and increases with years of experience with the ACA. All licensed positions attract the ACA premium. There's also Profit Share and Employee Share Purchase.
I think the Encore pay rates are better than E.I.
If anyone is interested, I would encourage you to apply. Current job positions are posted online at westjet.com under great jobs at the bottom of the page. The recruiter can fill you in on additional pay steps and other job information.

Re: Encore AME jobs
Dash: Let's say an AME that has been licensed for 15 years with a Q400 endorsement walked in and wanted a job on the floor. What would his wage be? $27.41?? If so those are E.I wages!
NCA would pay $38.00 hr. No gimmicks with profit sharing or share options or 7% this or that. Just money in pocket. Because of this NCA has been able to attract a lot of good AME's.
Judging by the fact you are talking bullshit about NCA laying off AME's and at the same time pumping Encore has a smell of desperation. Obviously Encore is having some challenges finding people. All you have to do is read the last 11 pages.
I look forward to sitting back and watching your fleet expansion into YYZ. Good luck finding good people with the above mentioned wage structure.

Anything under $30 an hour is crap money for an experienced AME so no kidding their issues finding people are bad enough that one of their own attempts to pump them up in a thread bashing them. Why no ad's in the employment section? That would at least look somewhat professional. The proud westjet mentality must be interfering with posting vacancies on avcanada or maybe they have read this thread. Encore wages still suck and it looks like everybody still knows it.

Re: Encore AME jobs
There has been no-layoffs. Your source isn't right sorry. In fact there's two new hires that are just getting warmed up this week.Dash8300 wrote:I understand there were some layoffs at North Cariboo. Does anyone know if they were apprentices or licensed AMEs?
Re: Encore AME jobs
It's good to hear you are hiring at NC.
For the person who sent me the message about Encore or WJ hiring and non-licensed employees, WJ and Encore do hire apprentices and M1 AMEs. I encourage you to watch the job postings on westjet.com and sign up for job alerts. If you know anyone who can bring you in to meet the line manager in YYC, that would give you a better idea of when there will be postings coming out for WJ. With the announced bases in the East and expansion in YYZ with Encore, there have been a few hires there and I expect there will be more. There are currently openings and postings for Encore in both YEG and YYC.

I spoke too soon Dash8300.
Literally couple days after that last post there was some lay-offs in the company along with an across the board wage decrease and no-more RRSP matching in the "near-term"....
Maybe these new-fangled airlines are the way to go. Who knows.
Luckily the maintenance dept. was basically untouched with the 2 hires now on shift. One avionics employee was layed off although he was pretty much close to (an earned) retirement. He didn't really have the heart for it anymore (literally - heart issues) either.
We feel pretty fortunate in maint. on how things transpired in terms of not really losing anybody. Appys and relative new-hires are all safe.
Moral definitely took a hit with the wage decrease and benefit reductions though.
Just thought it fair to mention after my last post.

Re: Encore AME jobs
Never posted on here but have followed this thread from the outside for awhile. Hearing through guys around the industry that Encore wages have increased again and have a higher top end with only 7 steps but will hire at step 4 or 5. Dose anyone have any solid info? Sounds like the guys there are making up ground from a few years ago. Heard it is a better deal than what Jazz has. Any truth to this?

Re: Encore AME jobs
Dose anyone have any new info on the Encore wage scales. I've heard the guys there have made some headway in the past year. Been following this thread from the outside for some time. Heard from a few guys I know that the AMEs have been pushing hard and have made some gains.
Re: Encore AME jobs
This is where they are at now. WJ AMEs and Encore AMEs will be negotiating a multi year agreement together within 18 months, so we could see some more movement. There are still major issues with attraction and retention ( losing Encore Mechs to WJ mainline ). Encore is hiring in YYC and YYZ. Its a work in progress. There have been some positive gains and more productive dialogue with WJ leadership. They are starting to understand the environment in our industry right now and are very willing to work with us in compensating our mechanics fairly. We have some amazing people here that have always seen the big picture and want to be the catalyst of change for all of us, WJ or not. As AMEs' we should all be doing this no matter where we work. BTW looking at Jazz's new contract, unions are no help at all to us.pi5tonhound wrote:Dose anyone have any new info on the Encore wage scales. It is really interesting that they are just now recognizing this.
It was hardly an industry secret that Encore wages were pathetic from the get go, and still aren't anything great. What's it been, 2 years??? Makes me wonder who the rejects are advising the higher up's that they could attract/retain good people at those wages.
Im willing to bet they were banking on the "its Westjet!!" brainwash to lure everybody in.
Looks like it worked out well, lol.
Re: Encore AME jobs
Westjet is cheap and they are not going to fill those AME positions fast enough. Encore pays peanuts and they will end up getting monkeys.
Re: Encore AME jobs
I think not; a few people I know recently applied for a WestJet job and was not given an interview even. They seem to have more than enough for the spots they have. For an apprentice anyways...neptune wrote:Westjet is cheap and they are not going to fill those AME positions fast enough. Encore pays peanuts and they will end up getting monkeys.
Re: Encore AME jobs
Went in for an interview. Was offered $29 because I'd been licensed over ten years. Told them no thanks.
