Porter/jazz?

Post by CYQT »

It seems this topic has come up before, but given the new information with the Jazz CPA, which one would you choose today?

Let's say hypothetically you were offered both positions tomorrow.

Porter pros:

Better pay after year 1
Faster upgrades
Expanding company (possible cs100's)

Jazz pros:

Possible flow through to AC
Better benefits/per diems
Better work rules?

Anyone care to elaborate or offer any insight?

Ummmm that thread is over 5 years old, so unless you've been living under a rock for the last 2 months you know the wawcon have changed significantly. He's just trying to spark the conversation again. Take your smart attitude elseswhere, it's not constructive.

Without knowing enough or having recent info I would say Porter just based on the fact that Porter pays more and I am kind of a pilot who's looking for a career airline and no more moves... However, the last ad Skyregional ran on here specified that they're looking for pilots for Toronto Island Airport. Are they going to operate out of there now and compete with porter? If that's the case Porter also may HAVE to lower the wages too as that was their biggest advantage and what has kept them in business so far.
I have been away from the Southern Ontario scene for a long LONG time so that's just a guess.

Sky Regional has been operating out of YTZ for quite a while now, roughly 5 or 6 flights a day to YUL. There was a news article a few months back that said they were looking to pull out of the Island since it's pretty expensive for them to operate out of there but who knows. They're definitely not a threat to Porter's operation.

Is Porter even making a profit? Have they ever? No one knows... If you really want to make one last career step, jazz would be safer in my books. Not saying porter isn't a great company, but where do they go from where they are now? Those exansion plans, if they ever happen, will be mighty risky in poking the bears that are WJ and AC.

Um, they just sold their $50 million terminal for around $750 million. I'm pretty sure a hefty profit was made there! Also, the consortium backed by AGF seems to think Porter is doing well enough to get involved with CYTZ...

I wouldn't wish a career at Porter on my worst enemy.

Smart attitude? Really?? I pointed out that there was in fact an active thread (the very topic the OP asked) down on the page. Excuuuusee me, sorry I offended your delicate sensibilities. And yes, I've actually been in a 3rd world country for the last 2 months. Kind of a under a rock I suppose.

Ummmmmmmm, Cheers!

Care to elaborate why you would say a statement like that?

Is it because you worked there and have experienced a bad time at Porter, or is it because of the YSB issue?
