Remember folks, CFIT can happen to anyone.

She’s built like a Steakhouse, but she handles like a Bistro.
Let's kick the tires, and light the fires.... SHIT! FIRE! EMERGENCY CHECKLIST!

I think that's more of a landing incident. Looks like he forgot to flare.
Re: Remember folks, CFIT can happen to anyone.
Was definitely continuing an unstable approach and should have known better.
Be careful out there.

Re: Remember folks, CFIT can happen to anyone.
I've seen this clip before, but, the whole episode so it's all in context. Reality is, this was the instructors fault, ie the birds parents. These are expected to jump out of a nest high on a cliff for first flight, and make it to the water where they finish growing up. If the nests aren't high enough on the cliff, this is what happens, and if you watch the rest of the clip, a fox comes along and eats the failed fledgeling.
The full segment shows hard core flying instruction, pretty much the extreme opposite of the touchy feely way Avcanadians think it should be done. First flight = first solo, and a failed exercise is fatal. The bird gets pushed out of the nest, and makes it over the beach to the water, or it becomes fox food, there's a whole herd of hungry foxes waiting along the shorline in eager anticipation of youngsters that fail the test on that first flying lesson.

Clearly a naval aviator... He was expecting an arresting cable, so the fault was with the ground crew.

Same thing happens here. You screw the pooch and you're eaten alive by the observers.

No wonder my chicken is so tough.
"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."
