That's an awesome trip, I just wish they were doing a one shot record attempt instead of just a world tour. Wasn't that their original plan?

I don't think this flight is going to advance aviation very much, it is PR to promote the solar industry. As Bertrand Piccard ,one of the projects co founder, said '' Our goal is to create a revolution in peoples minds to promote solar energies not necessarily a revolution in aviation '' He is a Psychiatrist and knows how the human mind works.
For non practical aviation projects I think the Gossamer Albatross was more interesting IMHO.

When all is said and done - John Q public will hear an electric airplane flew around the globe. PERIOD.
I think he has human "interest" figured out pretty good - they are not aviation nerds like us - around the world is around the world regardless of the number of stops.

Holy smokes,
no wonder no fuel.
The wings are like, wider than Africa.

Right now he is at 10,000 feet in a holding pattern off Hawaii getting ready to land.
The aircraft seems to be quite fragile. Weeks ago, I was reading that after he landed in Japan, it had some minor damage on the ground when all the ground handlers were holding it down in the wind. This was before they were able to erect their portable hanger and place it inside.
