Ground School done, question about PPAER prep.

Post by DroidDr »

Hi all,

I have completed my ground school, have 25 hours towards my PPL, and am currently preparing my PPAER exam.

I am of course following TC 12880 (study guide for exam) to direct my study.
( I currently have from the ground up, flight training manual, air command weather manual, private pilot, reference guides )

I want to know what other resources would be good to help me with my study.
Website, books, online material etc.

Best wishes all!

Get ahold of the Sharper Edge Training manuals, around $70 give or take, but worth it. Very good books, and they have lots of practice questions.

I used the Canadian Private Pilot Answer Guide -- about $30 and nothing but practice questions. Work through it a few times, review your weak sections, make sure you are 90%+ and you'll be good to go.

Keep reading all the books you have, and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the comments!

I saw comments on the 2 books mentionned above (sharper edge and canadian private pilot answer guide). So it seems they would be good choices.
The sharper edge is what? Practice questions or more than that?

Some people mentionned : from the ground up workbook. Any comments on that one?

Best wishes.

I prepped with Sharper Edge and Harv's Air online school. Passed with no issues.

Ground up workbook is a waste of time. Just read the acutal From the Ground Up a few times over. And the Sharper Edge book and you'll be more than prepared.

www.aerotraining.com

It's pretty in-depth quizzes in there. Won't let you progress to the next level of the quiz until you score 90% or higher and you won't be given the answers. But told what topics to review. Best price of $0.

The Private Pilot Answer Guide is definitely the best bang for your buck (other than the website as mentioned - which is a great resource too). I did use Sharper Edge books throughout my training, but found they got progressively less helpful. It seemed a lot of the information was just copied and pasted from previous books. That being said, I recommend the PPL one.

Thanks all,

That was very helpful.
I will try the aerotraining website as well as either the Private pilot answer guide or sharper edge.

Now for the hard part, to complete the study in a reasonable amount of time :)

Best wishes.

Try out the online exams from SkyWriters, too.

There's some good prep information here that you can tap into for free, and the exams themselves are a good price.
