I thought I had a Pilot' license.....Rant Alert
I know I used to have a pilot license.
And Every six months I have to suffer the abuse of my medical examiner regarding my dietary and exercise choices.
I still have the Marquis de Sade's friends and relatives doing what they can on checkrides in an attempt to end my career.
And people still let me fly airplanes.
I even carry that oh so convenient little passportie thing that I thought was a license.
And, as I have been told , that thingie expires and it is necessary for me to apply to the transport licensing and department of effeciency at least 90 days before it does actually expire or apparently I will become dangerously unsafe if I try to fly a plane with an expired, with what I thought ,was a license.
But alas, there apparently is no such thing as an actual pilot's license anymore. A fact I became aware of when I tried searching renewing a license.
The passportie thing is not a license. It is....An Aviation Document Booklet, or for those who work Monday to Friday in an office and never actually fly planes an "ADB". You can search that and it works.
Who in the great blue sky at TC thinks up these things? ADB....it is a bloody pilot's license.
i suppose they had to use ADB to save talk time and make internal texts more effecient.
I think that the taxpayers' money would be well spent if TC would hire an internal enforcement type, give them a big stick, and have them walk around HQ and give anyone a slap on the back of the head who can't speak simple English. Oh wait., that would be pretty much everyone in HQ. Let me revise that to the English speaking group who need to confuse the language and then have to make up an acronym because "license" is just to simple.
End of rant

I am an IT guy, so in my view ADB is like a file folder and little cute stickers are the files. *sarcasm*

Atta boy, get the poison out, free yourself.
I like to think that because we spout off here, we spare some poor soul from having to endure this non-stop drivel throughout a 14 hour duty day.
It's like taking a large dump before the start of the day and sparing your first officer from having to endure "warning shots" all day long.
This is the classy thing to do, and I salute Trey for having the courage to do it.

With the increase in cost of ammo, there will be no more warning shots.

To save money on ammo, buy bulk lots while on sale, which includes free shipping. This should alleviate any worries about having to use expensive ammunition.switchflicker wrote:With the increase in cost of ammo, there will be no more warning shots.

I completely agree with Trey (unusual, I know, but deal with it) I think the Stickie Bookie is the dumbest, most useless piece of bureaucratic dreck that any drone has ever come up with. It does have one principle virtue, however, it perfectly mirrors the processes of our gigantic, inefficient, overpaid play school that TC has become It is also a way to continuously squeeze more money out of us at random times such that they have enough to gold plate their pensions.
Did you know that it's very difficult to buy .22 ammo in North America as the survivalists in the US are stockpiling it to be used as currency after the Armageddon? Better get yours now.
What ever happened to the Pilot Breakfast of a doughnut and a dump?

My TC license abortion expires on July 01 of this year.
My medical lapsed about a year and a half ago.
Should I renew my medical before the abortion lapses?

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Now we have cases where the licence is valid, the IFR is valid, the PCC is valid, the Medical is valid.....
....But the booklet is expired.

Think I saw a credit card sized licence with a picture of . and Doc...no, it was Orvile and Wilbur! Wait a minute....that was an American licence. Had a black magnetic strip on the back....way too simple for our lads in Ottawa?

Let the book lapse, order the new one, fresh stamp it with the new medical after is arrives. In the interim, eat/drink/be merry.. . wrote:My TC license abortion expires on July 01 of this year.

Thanks, I find it very frustrating trying to understand the way TC operates.Let the book lapse, order the new one, fresh stamp it with the new medical after is arrives. In the interim, eat/drink/be merry.
If it were not for the insurance issues I would not bother with their license B.S.

FYI, i sent in my renewal after mine expired and received the new one in about 1 month. I think 90 days may apply in the Summer when everyone is on leave.
Re: I thought I had a Pilot' license.....Rant Alert
Slightly less than one month for me.

Re: I thought I had a Pilot' license.....Rant Alert
I kind of like the booklet. For one thing, I hated having my medical on one stupid little slip of paper and my license on another, and my PPC card on another, and my radio licence on another, etc. I had a separate wallet for that wad of crap. AND I also found it pretty stupid that the province requires a photo on my driver's license, but the license that lets me shoot around in the sky in a pointy, nearly-supersonic tube with dozens of screaming people in the back was a worthless little scrap of very-water-soluble- paper with no protection against being forged or stolen at all.
I only wish that the various sub-sects of THE SAME ORGANIZATION (the Federal government) could, in this instant-transfer-of-information age, I wish these morons could figure out a way for the booklet to function as a pilot's license, passport, and "red" pass all at once. There's no reason that isn't possible other than inertia, stupidity, lack of imagination and laziness.
Transport Canada, people. Might as well complain about a rock, or the ocean.

If the lisense expires before you get your new one are you grounded till the new one arrives?
Re: I thought I had a Pilot' license.....Rant Alert
When I did my renewal they lost my request, I had to start all over, so 5 days before my booklet was expiring I had to drive 700 km and get at temporary license (the blue paper) and pay for it

xsbank .22LR can be hard to find at times State side. Early mornings at any Walmart will usually yield a purchase. My concerns these days would be .223 More worried about sourcing and exporting that from State side to Canada (importing is not an issue)

This is something I miss about living in Canada- being able to get all wound-up and rant about the trivial.
Here, overseas, we have bigger issues to worry about, like expensive license renewal fees or bureaucratic processes, lack of airspace for recreational aviation, expensive user fees, etc. I often wish our regulator was like Transport Canada or the FAA.

Beautiful Winchester collectable wooden box of 500 22LR on sale at Cabela's right now. A bit less than fifty bucks if memory serves.

By the way this thread was going I was beginning to think I was the only one. I always felt a bit silly showing people my pilot licence that looked less official than a student driving permit. Now I show people the new one next to the old one and I can say "That's what they looked like when I learned to fly". That usually gets a chuckle.Meatservo wrote:I kind of like the booklet.
Now this is something worth ranting about. Finding rimfire ammo in Prince George is virtually impossible these days. Next time one of the online retailers gets a good supply in at a somewhat reasonable price I think I'm going to order a pile of it.xsbank wrote: Did you know that it's very difficult to buy .22 ammo in North America as the survivalists in the US are stockpiling it to be used as currency after the Armageddon? I was in a TC office a month ago and same thing, they asked for my ADB and I just stared back blankly for a second before asking what an ADB was...Oh, you mean my pilot's license...ADB?!?

Didn't they screw up the name? Aviation Blue Book?
It never ceases to amaze how boffins will invent their own complicated language,
rules and regulations that constantly escalate the difficulty in comprehending
"their language" that no one else uses.
In Australia, they have what is called "Part 61" which alludes, that its like
the US Part 61. Its not. Its a mess that only they understand.
Now, medicals.
I've got one of those plastic cards and when I renewed my medical, the doc put my weight
right there in the certificate. It was an embarrassment and in 4 months I lost 45 lbs
which let me use an entire stock of new clothes that had been put away.
It should also help reduce the take off distance...
Just imagine what would happen if TC suddenly decided to put height and weight on
each medical certificate?
I'd say it would be good idea.
