Multi rating.
I might search after I post this or I might not. Deal with it.
If someone lets me fly their plane around until I am comfy can I take a check ride or do I need certified instruction?

Re: Multi rating.
If "check ride" is meant to be flight test (since the title of the thread says Multi Rating), here are the CARS:
(5) A person who conducts flight training in a multi-engine aeroplane where the trainee does not have a multi-engine class rating shall:
(a) be the holder of a Commercial Pilot Licence or an Airline Transport Pilot Licence;
(b) have multi-engine pilot experience, which if acquired on centre thrust multi-engine aeroplanes may be credited toward qualifying a pilot to provide centre thrust multi-engine flight instruction only; and
(c) have experience of not less than 50 hours flight time on multi-engine aeroplanes with not less than 10 hours on the type of aeroplane used for the training.
You would have to do more than just "fly around" for your multi rating. Take a look at the flight test guide for what is covered on the flight test.
If you're talking about insurance purposes, I would assume that would be up the insurance company if they want dual instructor or just a certain number of hours in the aircraft.
Hope this helps!

Re: Multi rating.
Technically you don't need any instruction. Just a recommend from someone saying your competant to take the multi rating ride.
I think Kim jon Il did it.

Re: Multi rating.
The flight test guide has the following direction with respect to what a student must have prior to a flight test.
a.the candidate has received training in accordance with the Instructor Guide – Multi-Engine Class Rating (TP 11575);
b.the candidate has successfully completed a pre-test evaluation of all the applicable flight test items;
c.the candidate is considered to have reached a sufficient level of competency to undertake the flight test for the issuance of a multi-engine class rating;
d.the candidate is recommended for the flight test.
para a and b specify training that must have been done therefore you could not just be signed off with no formal training.

I tried to phone you to ask but no one answered.
In my scheme (fairly long story) the "person who would conduct..." Has CPL (possibly ATPL I have not spoke with him for a while. Hundreds of hours on his type, not centerline thrust.
I'll come by to bother you soon, with my fishing rod and a double double, since I have recently been informed I will have 5 days off per week instead of the regular 3.

Don't panic. I am just curious. I doubt I will even see his plane never mind flying it around, if he even has one still.

Re: Multi rating.
I worked for a guy that had a twin one summer. I actually found the job on here about ten years ago. I might work for him again. I never saw the plane last time. I doubt I will ever see it.
A multi rating would be kind of no use to me anyway. I was just wondering about vague possibilities.
