Cathay Pacific Transition Training.

Post by Lonepilot »

Looking through the forum, seems like most information is fairly old.

I was recently offered an interview with C.P through the transition training program, with the 747 sim eval in HK.

Hoping someone can share some first hand information about this program. Not so much the interview style or questions, but more as to the differences between this program and the "Advanced Entry" system. The general rule of thumb seems to be S.O for up to 4 years through the Advanced Entry system. If one was in the Transition route, and almost 2000 Turb M.Pic would this period be shortened?

Quite a lot to consider...

Worst case scenario, sounds like a free trip to HK

No, the SO service period will not be shorten as far as I read. In the AE program, the training would be shorter compare the to 14 months the full newbie program. In addition, there's some difference in terms of the loan you receive from CP for the course. From what I read so far on PPRUNE, this amount is taxed as income at the end of the pay back period.

What's this? "Loan"? "Payback period"?

Not more people paying for jobs I hope. I keep telling you people, money flows FROM the employer TO the employee. This is simple to understand and is the only acceptable movement of funds.

I hope this isn't what I think it is.

This is what I got from a PPRUNE post but since it's the Internet, you need to ask more questions.
Forgivable Loan:
Each successful candidate will be provided with a loan in the amount of HK$1,100,000. Depending on their experience, each candidate will spend a different amount of this loan on the training course prior to joining Cathay Pacific. Once they join and successfully complete probation, Officers who did not use all of the money for training will be eligible to receive the balance in cash. The candidates will be streamed into three programmes:
• Those with minimal or no flying experience will undergo an ab-initio training programme, using up the entire HK$1,100,000.
• Those with some relevant flying experience will undergo an Advanced Entry training programme costing approximately HK$550,000 and the remaining HK$550,000 will be made available to the Officer.
• Those who only require Transition Training will spend approximately HK$220,000 and the remaining HK$880,000 ($111,127.98 CDN) will be made available to the Officer.

This forgivable loan will be deemed to have been repaid through 6 years of continuous service with Cathay Pacific.

Training Bond (oh forgivable loan) is taxable after the 6-years, 17% of 1,000,000hkd

Lots of bitching there, from spoiled ego-freak brats demanding more, for less productivity.

Bitching, yes. But I wonder if their demands are truely out of place tho.

* Reduced housing benefits
* 4 crew to 3 crew long haul flights
* Pay rise not matching local inflation

** Disclaimer ** I don't work for them but I did apply to their local cadet program once.

Sadly you still have to do your time as an SO no matter what hiring stream you joined on. Right now its sitting at 3 years. Its an easy job but towards the end also a bit boring.
There is some labour strife. Next on the negotiating block are rostering practices and seeing if we can get a better housing allowance.
Company does want some 3 crew long haul. Pilots obviously don't.

PM me for more info.

It's amazing that only 15ish years ago, Cathay was the dream job on most pilot, the end goal.

Now, Many people won't even look their direction with what they have done to the housing, salary, etc.

Most pilots are going to the desert in a heart beat over Cathay.

To bad if you ask me, as I remember when I was younger looking at Cathay thinking to myself "that would be awesome".

We can only hope that the oversea's carriers hire all our young Pilots, so these creeps here have some pain and change there hiring practices, I like it when they have to compete. It has been a little one sided for far too long IMHO!!
