Licence Number

Post by Justinh789 »

So I'm interested in getting an Aviation themed tattoo and I'd like to have my licence number involved. My question is does that number ever expire? I'd hate to get it tattooed on me only to end up with a different one in 5 years

Get it turned into a bar code and then get them to put that on your forehead. Your license is the same number from when you get your first medical to when you die. Unless you also get an AME license. That will have a different number.

The number first assigned will be used for the rest of your life. The only things that change are the type of license designator letters that preceded the number. Eg AA123456 = Airline transport license, Aeroplane, M123456 = Aircraft Maintenance engineer license etc etc.

Note some operators have policies with respect to visible tatoo's......

A pilot who then gets an AME license will be issued an AME license with the same number. The only difference is instead of getting a sticker for the stupid aviation booklet they get a credit card size plastic license with their picture on it. I guess that was far a far to sensible solution for us dumb pilots

It's a CH number so odds are I won't need to worry about an operators opinion...

I seem to recall asking one of my friends who used to be an AME and that was his answer, but I might be wrong. Maybe if you're an AME first you get a different pilot number but if you're a pilot first you keep the same one.

Oh well, worse case, TWO tattoos!

Definitely the case for pilot first then AME. Have a friend who did that. It was funny because they got their PPL about 12 years before getting the AME license. They were the most junior AME, but had the lowest AME number in the shop except for the DOM. The senior guys were pissed with that

It's the same for ame to pilot. I started as an ame and got my pilots license years later. Same numbers

Seriously !? A tattoo with your licence number?

Not sure if you are trolling or what... But it is lame (so you know)

Kinda like tattooing your first love's name.
An imprint on your skin about someone you may hate few years down the road.

I guess the tattoo is appropriate for people who start a sentence with "So ...."

I wonder if there are any guys or gals on here who had something like XDM-XXXX or a VRC-XXXX tattooed on them with the expectation that the number would never change?

The prefix for my first one would then apply "ULP"

If we call those mid back tatoos on young women "Tramp Stamps" what should we call the tattoo of a license number ?

How about "Lurker Lable"

What's the deal with tattooing these days anyway? Everybody and their dog nowadays has full sleeve tattooes or worse yet their neck or head or entire body. Does anyone give any thought into how they are going to look when they're 60 or 70? It goes along the same lines as those huge loops people stretch their ears out with. I just don't get it.

Thanks!

You seems to fit the bill too.

I offered another possibility since his question was already answered.
He was wondering if his licence number would change, we know it's a no.
So how about if his love for aviation would change?

As much as there is some nice tattoos around, a pilot licence won't cut it...I just find it lame!

If people want to get tattoos that's their choice. Everyone has their own lifestyle and choices.

Now I wonder if you get a tattoo of the entire main page of your booklet on your chest and the ATPL sticker on your back, can that just pass off as your licence and you can leave the booklet at home?

I'm picturing TC ramping someone and they have to take their shirt off to show the licence haha

As for tattoo ideas for your licecne number, maybe an aircraft tattoo with the licecne number instead of a tail number?

Hate?

What's up with today's "kids" that seem to have zero understanding of a dictionary meaning of a word.

Its not "Hate" to think somebody's actions are stupid and express that opinion .... or is that a further expansion of the flexible term "Hate Speech?"
