More temporary foreign workers in Canada?

Post by Panama Jack »

I ain't buying this suggested "shortage." There are enough unemployed Canadians out there. Until every single one has been employed . . . no foreign temporary workers!

Looking at the american situation with open borders and amnesty,, you can EXPECT a continual influx of illegals, blue and white collar workers for aviation and all other industries. THINK NWO and having a borderless, cultureless, moneyless, religionless society ruled by a central world government. The brainwashing has been ongoing for over 50 years ,,,,immigration is good, wars are good,, you get the point!

At least FLVCs would be legit this time, I think that law was created for this kind of circumstances, not for TFWs and businesses.

While I can understand PJ's feelings on the topic of TFW, I'm not sure it applies to the forest fire fighting situation. What's the spin up time to train and retrain firefighters and what's the cost of doing so? If there are a bunch of professional that knows what they are doing and can be used as a surge then why not? IMO, this is not about perm staffing at Timmy or McCrap but really just a need for TFW for few months surge. Forest fire fighting is a truly seasonal thing, which doesn't require full time staff. Will anyone's employer allow their staff a few months off to fight forest fire? I bet my fat ass that they won't.

By now most of you will be thinking: "But moocow, doesn't your arguement the same one use by Sunwing and the likes?". I'll also bet my fat ass that it's the exact same thing the management is using in hiring pilots from EU. The issue again is people avilable for work vs. people qualified for work. Sunwing probably went up to Industry Canada with these arguement:

"There are no pilots with enough experience and type rating to operate these aircraft types."
"We don't need to retain 6 more aircraft just for 6 months of the year."
"If we train experience people just to operate 6 months of the year, there is no guarentee that they are accessible the next year now that they are qualified for full time jobs elsewhere."

Seriously, who on this board will work 6 months contract at a time when they can find full time jobs elsewhere? I don't know and that's why I'm asking.

What needs to end is this ridiculous isolationist mentality. Countries that insist on it better be ready to reel in all of their own working abroad and stop international trade. "Buy Canadian" also means "sell Canadian" and nowhere else.

I disagree with you, it has nothing to do with the "isolationist mentality". Let's not diminish globalization into some hippie idealism, because other countries are not, this is just about doing fair business and right now there is none... it has nothing to do with exporting maple syrup.

Europeans made it more difficult for foreign pilots, so do most countries in the world who don't need foreign workers. If TFWs are reciprocal in numbers and allow Canadians to get a yearly job, why not.

Business is not fair.
You are the idealist of this story I'm afraid.
Reciprocity will never exist on this TFW basis if it serves any company's interests.
Too bad if it's not your company.

THIS is the reality you have to deal with today and that is more than some hippie idealism.

We have one of the most dynamic aviation in the world on all the levels, foreign countries even come in Canada to have their pilots trained and we are getting foreign pilots in order to work to "fill up jobs" in Canada ... yes we are really bad at doing business.

That is what governments are for, protecting the people who voted for them, unfortunately we have most of the most corrupted federal government in Canadian history.

Hopefully NDP will be elected on the next ones and they will solve that issue for once and all, like they promised.

Great way of thinking, it will only become the norm for all of them.
