1969 - my last year in high school. Lots to remember that fine year, the moon landing , real Woodstock. Fine tunes on the radio, really got into Jim Morrison and the Doors, my first part-time job having my own money. Was able to quaff three summertime beers down without puking, first girly and my first feel................

From zero to that in less than 10 years. We can't even seem to design an airplane in that time anymore, and replacing one in the military takes 4 times as long.

I suspect the current state of affairs is due to society's intolerance of mistakes/failure and obsession with perfection. Government is so risk averse when it comes to decision making that they don't let anyone make any decisions. Additionally, government is far to fixed on getting a 'perfect' solution. Preposterous amounts of time and resources are dropped into trying to get from an 85% effective solution to an unattainable 100% solution. The net result is near-paralysis that yields unwieldy results (Cormorant, FWSAR).Rockie wrote:From zero to that in less than 10 years. "Back in the day" the public, (and as a result), the government were willing to accept higher risk levels. This meant that more got done; However it also meant that more people died.

I wonder if in the back of our pea brains, we hope to connect the attempt to go from 85% effective solution to the unattainable 100% solution to the unfortunate reality that people do die, thusly if we have enough zero tolerance in the things we try to do, people won't die anymore. The fact that we wouldn't do anything might become acceptable. Can you imagine if we lived forever. Yuk
Maybe I should stop thinking about this stuff.

Sf, that sounds bleak; Imortality spent sitting around doing nothing.
