Transport Canada
Anyone else experiencing delays on receiving medical certificates from Transport Canada. I did my medical about a month ago and still no certificate. What takes so long? I can't write any tests without it. Anyone else having the same problem?
Re: Transport Canada
When you did your medical the doctor should have signed off on it which is good for 60 or 90 days (I forget which) without your permanent sticker.
Re: Transport Canada
I've had to call them three times in the last few years to get temporary licenses emailed to me, because the stickers did not arrive within the 90 day window. It's quite a process. You call, leave a message, hope someone phones you back a day or two later, and then they charge you $40 to generate the temporary license.
Re: Transport Canada
What is the reason they charge you ? It happened twice to me, but they never charged me because the delay/mistake was on their end.ditar wrote:I've had to call them three times in the last few years to get temporary licenses emailed to me, because the stickers did not arrive within the 90 day window. As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: Transport Canada
I don't recall what their rationale was, actually. Rather than argue with the regulator I just paid it and then expensed it.digits_ wrote:What is the reason they charge you ? I have the doctors copy with his stamp but For some reason my club is saying that I can't write until I have the one from Transport Canada. Were you able to use yours?tbaylx wrote:When you did your medical the doctor should have signed off on it which is good for 60 or 90 days (I forget which) without your permanent sticker.

I just spoke with TC again and I'm told that I can write the exam as long as my medical is on their system. I think I'm going to have to argue with my club a little. I can't help but think everyone is scared to make a decision. It's an exam for goodness sake. I sit down for three hours and answer 100 questions. No flying involved. I hate it when people preach rules they can't understand.

Re: Transport Canada
Your club is preaching the rules that are laid out in black and white.
A significant portion of holding a licence is knowing, understanding and following the rules. Don't go in half cocked because you don't know what the rules are.
If you have the medical assessment bring that or ask transport for the temporary one or just wait until yours arrives.
Notice the part where it says "the applicant shall produce"? Your club doesn't have a system that will allow them to look into Transport Canada's private system to determine weather your medical is valid. That is just a courtesy that Transport Canada allows you in their office.421.13 Examination Prerequisites
(1) For admission to a written examination required for the issue of a permit, licence or rating an applicant shall have met the medical standards for the issue of the permit, licence or rating and shall produce proof of medical fitness in one of the following forms:
(a) a Medical Certificate in the appropriate medical category;
(b) a Medical Assessment Letter (Form 26-0417) in the appropriate medical category;
(c) in the case of a Student Pilot Permit - Aeroplane, Pilot Permit - Ultra-light Aeroplane or Pilot Licence - Glider, a Civil Aviation Medical Declaration (Form 26-0297);
(d) a temporary Medical Certificate in the appropriate medical category; or
(e) a Medical Examination Report assessed to the appropriate medical category by the Regional Aviation Medical Officer.

Re: Transport Canada
The rules are very simple, you have a valid medical if you've done one within 90 days and the doctor stamped it. You don't need the transport sticker unless the 90 days has passed therefore your doctor's stamp isn't valid anymore. Produce your license booklet with the doctor stamp and date and you're good.The Forbidden Fruit wrote:I just spoke with TC again and I'm told that I can write the exam as long as my medical is on their system. Sounds like the poster is a new student and doesn't have a book.
Some things to consider- do your medical FIRST, maybe immediately after your fam flight. If you want to be a commercial pilot then do a Cat 1 right off the bat to make sure you don't have any diagnosed issues. You also don't have to wait for processing times.
-What tests are you referring to? PSTAR? Normally the pinch point is waiting on the medical to go for the first solo (for people that delayed getting the medical)
-You can write tests at the TC offices as long as TC has received the medical from the Dr. and you've subsequently been assigned a medical number, which will be your license number.
-Just as a note to anyone who needs a paper permit because their 90 day temp validity is expiring- TC will NOT charge you for delays in processing. They will email you a PDF immediately. The only time they charge is if you need a replacement on your own accord, due to losing your booklet, expiring, etc.
Heck I had to get two temps because it took almost 6 months to get my float rating sticker, it was just around the time they were implementing the blue book and things were, uh, delayed.

Re: Transport Canada
A bit of a drift, but if I only have the doctors stamp, and have paid the fee, so TC has received my medical ( they are very prompt at sending out the bill. No delay there)
And after 90 days I do not have the sticker, exactly what regulation would I be violated under?
I have trouble believing that even the most anal enforcement type would see how this would play out at a tribunal if it was them that caused the delay.
Has anybody actually evervbeen violated?
As to the FTU.. Well rules are rules, which is different than what I am asking

Re: Transport Canada
I was told last medical that TC doesn't send stickers anymore for a medical, the stamp is your medical! I phoned and they confirmed this. They can provide you with a sticker, for a cost...bastards. Maybe different for a Cat1? The whole system is turning into a joke...
Re: Transport Canada
I called in too to see where my sticker was staying and was also told The stamp was all I needed and sticker would not be sent to me.

Re: Transport Canada
Actually very glad to hear you say that Taiser! I thought that was the case (I think a friend asked them that quite a long time ago), but suddenly started to panic when the discussion in this thread popped up since it had been so long I couldn't remember details. I haven't gotten a sticker in years, but randomly received one in the mail one time and couldn't figure out why the heck they had sent it given they hadn't sent one for along time prior to that, unless it was somehow tied to getting a new booklet.
Pay the CAME, get his signature, pay the TC fee (oops - that's another thread
) and you're golden....

Re: Transport Canada
I'm a bit confused. I have been renewing my Cat 1 medical for years now and I've never received a sticker. I do a ride every 6 months and the examiner only looks for my most recent stamp.
