Now you too can own a piece of the Gimli Glider

Post by I_Drive_Planes »

It appears that the Gimli Glider, which failed to sell at auction a while back, has gone for scrap. Motoart, who make some very cool furniture from old airplane parts, are making keychains from the skin of the Gimli Glider along with some other interesting airplanes.

I had a moment of weakness at 0200 last night and ordered one. It came to about $72 Canadian with shipping (for a freaking keychain, ouch!). I'll put it on my airplane keys. I don't really believe in luck, but it'll serve as a reminder to always double check my fuel!

36 BUCKS??!!?? For a quarter size piece of aluminum skin? It would be sweet to have, but not that sweet. I know they are probably trying to recoup some loss but geez... They probably would have sold more at a reasonable 10$ each and still made 1000% profit...

I have an A320 key chain I use for my EFBag. Motoart is generally over priced, but you are paying an artist for a cool idea.

C-GAUN was looking a bit rough already back in January. I guess it's all beer cans and key chains now. An interesting piece of Canadian aviation history, gone.
