Foreflight changes/updates issues

Post by darkskyequeen »

Hi all!
I subscribed to the Foreflight Pro Canada Plan for $149US back in September and I know for a fact that in Maps mode when I zoomed out for a view of North America, I had the full coverage of US and Canadian VFR charts. This helped me greatly especially for adding context to the radar and satellite overlays. Now (I think since the update to 7.5) when I zoom out the entire US is greyed out. I contacted them and they are telling me that the Pro Canada version never included the US VFR charts to begin with unless I paid extra for it. Anyone else have a similar issue where you know you had those charts and now they have disappeared since the update?

Also I notice that the new logbook feature is in the new Basic Canada plan for $99 US but is not included in my Pro plan that I paid more for. For me to get the logbook feature and keep my geo-referenced plates feature I would have to upgrade to the $199 US plan and on top of that spend $100 more to get those US VFR charts that I swore I already had. So after the email correspondence they tell me that my I would have to pay an additional pro-rated $182.88 US to upgrade to the the Pro Plus to get back my VFR US charts and get the new logbook feature.

I know everything in aviation costs alot of money and sometimes it's easy to lose good judgement when you are giving up close to $300 sometimes on single flying lesson but do you personally think it's reasonable to pay $299 US ( $417 Canadian) annually for those foreflight features.

I use FltPlan Go exclusively now. It has free CFS, georeferenced VFR and IFR charts and approach plates for Canada and USA. The only thing missing is the IFR terminal chart.

If you didn't pay for the US charts, you didn't get them. No change there. If you did have them you had a freebie- be grateful.

Don't want the logbook feature? don't pay for it. Easy.

And I think 300 bucks is a steal never to have to buy charts, plates, CFS or AF/D again.

I've had basic US with pro Canada for the last couple years. I've never been able to view both US and Canadian VFR charts at the same time. I have to switch between both. If you turn on world aeronautical and the Canadian VFR then you'll see both.
If you think Foreflight is expensive, steer clear of Garmin and Jeppesen based units. I'm spending $1500US a year for the updates. Just hope the exchange rate goes closer to par before I have renew.

Photofly I guess I got lucky for that time period then. Another friend confirmed what you said as well that the US VFR coverage is not suppose to be there unless you pay extra for it. Aww well, I got so use to it LOL! CpnCrunch I heard about fltplan go but never checked it out, I'll do that! Broken Slinky thanks for the feedback and ya the exchange rate is probably the real issue. BTW the logbook feature in foreflight is something that I would like to check out. I'll have to do some more cost comparisons when my annual subscription is up for renewal. I really love the app in general.

I've been using this: https://www.fltplan.com/

Both USA & Canada VFR maps with free CFS! Works for me. Plus I don't have to buy an ipad.

FltPlan Go is the ipad/iOS app version of fltplan.com. I'm not entirely sure how they can offer all of this for free. Their support is excellent as well. I guess they make their profit from their professional flight planning service.

Look at NC's logbook pro too. It's another option for and electronic logbook.

I'm not a fan with how the CanadaPro version now requires you to buy synthetic vision to get the geo refrenced plates.
