TSB Investigator Position
I posted this available position in the 'Jobs' section, but spoke to a few people that hadn't noticed it because they only read the accident/incident section. So, I thought it might be a good idea to repost it here.
The Transportation Safety Board has an opening for a Regional Senior Investigator (Operational / Pilot), based in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
https://psjobs-emploisfp.psc-cfp.gc.ca/ ... ter=882600
The closing date for applications is February 28th.
If you have any questions, I may be able to answer them here, or if you'd prefer, you can contact me directly at ewan.tasker@tsb.gc.ca.

Would not have seen it either, nor then ever to have imagined what it takes to fit this position.
How many are employed there, in an office such as this ?

Re: TSB Investigator Position
The regional offices of the TSB, such as this one in Ontario, are quite small and normally have between 10-15 persons on staff.
There are 6 air investigators in this region, three of whom are pilots, and three are AME's.

Re: TSB Investigator Position
What would be the odds of a person getting hired without an ATPL? Are there positions for those interested who are not ATPL guys. Say a guy with 8 to 10 thousand hours who is really interested in this kind of work?

Re: TSB Investigator Position
In the government, most positions are categorized into designated classifications. The position which is vacant in Ontario is a AO-CAI-3 position. The essential qualifications for this classification (when staffed by any department) include an ATPL (or Heli Comm+IFR). The essential qualifications for each classification do get reviewed periodically, however I think it would be unlikely that they would drop the ATPL from the CAI-3. So, unfortunately, at the moment there is no flexibility with regards to that requirement.
That being said, there are numerous other positions at the TSB, in the air branch, which are not CAI-3, and do not require an ATPL. We have AME's, Dispatchers, Cabin Crew, Engineers, Human Factors, Macro Analysis, Recorders Analysts, and many others. With the exception of pilots and AME's however, most of these positions are in the Ottawa area.

Phillyfan, surely for someone very interested in working for the TSB an ATPL can't be that hard to get?
Re: TSB Investigator Position
Like the licensed mechanic or pilot, Investigative Experience seems to be built also over a long period of time.
Re: TSB Investigator Position
nah Ahramin. Not gonna spend money to get a job. Also not interested in renting a Cessna and flying in circles at night to cover the requirements.
Re: TSB Investigator Position
Is there building time flying to job destinations ... or just for the resume ?
EDIT:
Don't worry Taxivasion, had no intention of competing with you for the job. Reading accident reports a lot though, it's obvious would be tough job doing/approving a synopsis while practising the utmost consideration for those hurt or have lost loved ones ...
