He's a picture I took of C-GCYV in front of the Saunders hanger in Gimli in 1974. As I understand it...and I could be wrong. Saunders got this plane out of the bush north of Pickle Lake then brought it to Gimli. They cooked up some kind of deal with a guy in Vancouver to obtain the rights he was to get the first plane and a million dollars or some such amount. They rebuilt the plane and installed the new engine. Then the Manitoba government said they were ending funding for this project as well as the Saunders project. The plane was flown to Vancouver as per the deal. Then the plane was sold or given to the WCAM and flown back to Winnipeg. I hear that was all the flights it ever did. I can't swear to any of this.....just me talking!!

Coval bought the Air BC base in Campbell River, but I never heard about them buying Island Air. Were they down at the Spit? Did this happen after Wayne died?xsbank wrote:Island Airlines sunk one - likely the one that's been de-registered. Island Air was bought by Coval which was bought by... somebody else. Island has been defunct for years.
Was the Gary Thompson, mentioned above, the same as the owner of Thompson's Camps and Nipawin Air? How did he die and when? I flew for him in the 70's.

Harrison Airways had one outside the Link training room with no wings on it. in the early 70s with a Leonides engine. I never saw it fly and heard it was flipped in a windstorm (late 70s?) Other than the one Bo dumped in Rupert in 1980 and Island Air in YBL, that's it that I know of.oldtimer wrote:Back in the late 60's, I flew a Fairchild F-11 Husky CF-SAQ when it was owned by Parson's Airways LTD. of Flin Flon Man.
I heard that the airplane ended up in B.C where it was repowered with an Alvis Leonides engine. Has any oldtimers on the B.C. coast ever heard of or remember this fine old underpowered boat anchor arplane?

I came across this photo of CF-SAQ at the Transcontinental Timber Company dock on Nassau Lake, west of Hearst. The young lady is Danielle de la Touche, the daughter of the manager Brice. The photp was likely taken around 1952 - 53.
