If your IFR rating lapses.
Hi all, just a quick question that probably all of you will have the answer to:
What happens to your IR if you let it lapse??
I know it is stuff we are suppose to know and I am a bit ashamed to ask but here it is.
Got multi IR in flight school but I fly VFR in Africa so I will not have many opportunities to renew my Canadian rating. What will I need to do to get current again if I lapse?

Re: If your IFR rating lapses.
Your IR rating doesn't really lapse like it used to. Now basically all you need is within the previous 24 months proceeding an IFR flight is to have completed a Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC)

As you can see this can usually can be accomplished during your training if hired by an IFR operator via competency check, Line Oriented Evaluation (LOE) or pilot proficiency check instead of doing an IPC on your own dime.
Rewriting of the INRAT is no longer required.

Great Thank you very much. This is good news!

You might want to re-boot your flight simulator first,

Re: If your IFR rating lapses.
My IFR expired about 5 years ago and at that time if didn't renew your IFR within 2 years you lost your written exams. The way I read the new regs the rules have changed.
If I decide in the future to give aviation another run do I only have to renew my medical and pcc ride to be current again?
Thanks

Re: If your IFR rating lapses.
That is correct although if "IFR Group X" is not currently on your license (mine never lapsed for more than 24 months so I don't know what happened in your case), I'm not sure what steps are required with Transport Canada to get it put back on.turn&pull wrote:My IFR expired about 5 years ago and at that time if didn't renew your IFR within 2 years you lost your written exams. I vote for a "sticky" thread...
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.

Have a look at AC 401-005. See FAQ #4.C-GKNT wrote:That is correct although if "IFR Group X" is not currently on your license (mine never lapsed for more than 24 months so I don't know what happened in your case), I'm not sure what steps are required with Transport Canada to get it put back on.turn&pull wrote:My IFR expired about 5 years ago and at that time if didn't renew your IFR within 2 years you lost your written exams. Re: If your IFR rating lapses.
My ifr lapsed in February 2012 (old rules). Last summer I got a sticker for my book to renew it (I did nothing to warrant this) so now I have my ifr, just need currency to carry on.
