Sioux Lookout
Hey guys just looking to see if any of you know of anyone in Sioux lookout that is renting a room out or looking for a roommate. Moving there on the 2nd of July to start a new chapter in the career and the rentals are hard to come by. I've checked the obvious like kijiji and there seems to be more wanted ads then people renting. I was also suggested to look into CKDR which is a radio station in Dryden that has a classified ads section, I posted on there with no luck so far. Any advice is great!
Re: Sioux Lookout
I'm here right now. There is not a ton locally but I know of a few places, but they will likely be full by the time you get here. PM me what your budget is and I can give you a few email addresses.
You have to be in town and jump on something when it arises. Places don't last much more than a week and it's all word of mouth.
CKDR, and Kenora/Tbay Kijiji are the best places to look. When you're here you can look in the Sioux Bulletin there are paper ads every Wed.
Where are you going to be working? Does your employer have temporary crew housing for the interim?

If you are on Facebook, there is a Sioux Lookout Buy and Sell group. Check it out, there are a few listings on there from time to time, one right now, 2bdrm house on the lake, $1000 a month.

Who can afford to pay 2 months salary of what the local operators pay, for a monthly rental?
Re: Sioux Lookout
Yeah, when I started working in Sour Outlook I made $1000 gross a month, took home 823....pretty sweet

Wish I could afford a $1000 a month....thanks for all the input I've come to the realization that I will probably just have to wait until I'm there to find anything/get to know people who may have a room for rent.

Re: Sioux Lookout
You guys are bitching about $1000/month for a 2 bedroom on the lake? Get a roommate and jump on it. Hell, take the place, and then put an add out for roommate wanted, $600 a month. I was paying $1000 a month 8 years ago in Sioux, nowhere near the lake.
The only three things a wingman should ever say: 1. "Two's up" 2. "You're on fire" 3. "I'll take the fat one"

Dunno where you worked? But $1000 is far from "two months" salary. At least not for me.
Re: Sioux Lookout
I'd love to live in a two bedroom house on the lake for $500 per person.Redneck_pilot86 wrote:You guys are bitching about $1000/month for a 2 bedroom on the lake? Get a roommate and jump on it. Better than everything else I've found here ranging from $500-$800/month for a bedroom in a 4+ shared house.

I guess When you take into account of splitting the 1000 a month between 2 people, 500 a month each for a priceless view of a lake and fishing at your back door who can complain!

Re: Sioux Lookout
I worked in Sioux Lookout in 1991. A lot has probably changed since then but I couldn't afford rent on a Beaver Pilot's wage (not with an apartment and family in Winnipeg to pay for) so I bought a 14' Travelaire trailer. Luckily I owned and old pickup to pull it with and also the seaplane base has a pooper. For showers, well I jumped in the lake early in the morning. Soap does not get frothed up much in cold water. It was tough in October...
Too bad Knobby's burned down. It was a good place to eat occasionally.

Re: Sioux Lookout
Yeah things have changed. No sure what the entry level float guys are making but a Beaver job here is $4000+/mo from what I've been told. At the airport a Navajo will get you $2500/mo to start and up from there. Metro's, b1900's and such will be more.

Don't be so sure. Metros are cheap, and often so are their operators. 1900s aren't much better.awitzke wrote:Yeah things have changed. According to this, FighterPilot is right. However I wonder if it's out of date since Wasaya's troubles the past several months.

If you haven't found anything yet, check with a few of the fishing lodges in town. I know a few will rent out cabins on a month to month basis, some more affordable then others.

Try $250 a month and 4 cents a mile on a Cessna 180… a few years back.
